DVI is limited to 8-bit color and there is no embedded audio option.<br><br>Does this monitor have built-in speakers?  HDMI audio would be awesome for that. I think you meant HDCP - which is not specific to HDMI.  HDCP can (and does) exist on DVI devices as well.<br><br>@kyle<br>The way the backward compatibility is that when a monitor is DVI, the HDMI source will discover this during the handshake and revert to "DVI Mode" which as I said is limited to 8-bit color.<br><br>There's all kinds of "DVI is the same & just as good" type nonsense comments I see on this blog and others.  It's not.  For example, try running the Monoprice Matrix HDMI switch with DVI-only equipment in the mix. I move my stuff around a lot and it's easier to plug and unplug the hdmi cable and leave the adapters connected; plus the cable is thinner and more flexible than any dvi cable I've had.
