Downloaded the firmware that could and voila no royalty fees to pay. Of course distributors like Dane-elec or whatever they're called pay the royalty fees and put the mp3 playing firmware on.

Oh wait..I get it. Because when playing some MP3s, the last few seconds of the track will stutter which makes the M6 (that's what I own) not able to play MP3s!
