Microsoft stocks up on Heroes soda, clearly has a thing for lemon-lime
We're not exactly sure what's up with using sodas to celebrate the launch of something, but apparently, the folks in Redmond just totally dig it. For (at least) the second time in as many years, Microsoft has selected a lemon-lime beverage to create buzz (and fizz, we suppose) about a particular product launch. C'mon Microsoft, we know you like to stick to your guns, but what's a fellow got to do to get some rebadged NuGrape?

lol for all those who complain that engadget covers too much rubbish that isn't news, i think this article proves otherwise.
michael @ Mar 5th 2008 4:49PM
Here's the real site : http://www.microsoft.com/heroeshappenhere/default.mspx
If Engadget kept as much tabs on the MS sites as they did on the Apple sites, they would have figured out what the HEROES label on the can meant already. I'm just saying.
LordZargon @ Mar 5th 2008 7:41AM
Excuse me for my Britishness... but, what?
Heinrich @ Mar 5th 2008 7:50AM
Excuse my German. Ness... But vat?!
I don't get the gist of this article after having reread it twice. I feel stupid. And German.
Isn't Heroes a TV series?
AutoTom @ Mar 5th 2008 7:58AM
excuse me for my australianness... but. what the f*ck are you c*nts talkin 'bout?
Beau @ Mar 5th 2008 8:12AM
Haha, nice one Tom.
StrangeBum @ Mar 5th 2008 8:13AM
Excuse me for my Americanness...but what is the deal with all this nationalityness? And yes, I probably just made that word up, which I do often.
Now Microsoft, it's okay to brand a drink with something, just as long as it is Windows Vista Tequila, with a worm at the bottom. Get it? Because windows has.....bugs.....alright, I'm done.
LordZargon @ Mar 5th 2008 8:37AM
Wow, nice way to not understand my post.
I was making the point that anyone outside the US of A wont know what "Heroes" soda is, nor do we care. Nor do we care that Microsoft stocks it.
I just don't see it's relevance.
That is all.
Frank Furter @ Mar 5th 2008 8:40AM
Then go read something more 'non-American'. Or have a spot of tea, or a jammy dodger.
LordZargon @ Mar 5th 2008 8:44AM
Wow. I think you'll find crumpets more applicable that Jammy Dodgers.
And I will read something more non-American. On Engadget as it so happens. Also, maybe you should cut-out the stereotyping.
Frank Furter @ Mar 5th 2008 8:51AM
Thank you, my lord.
Harlo @ Mar 5th 2008 9:03AM
I'm from US of A and I have no idea what a Heroes soda is. Perhaps you can quench your thirst whilst you save the cheerleader.
Joel Rose @ Mar 5th 2008 9:13AM
yeah, don't worry- this post doesn't contain any inside information that's exclusive to the US. I, too, have no idea what Heroes Soda is and I live in the US.
Rocketboy @ Mar 5th 2008 3:15PM
US American here... No clue what Heroes soda is. But I don't think that's germane to the story either.
(What 'brand' the soda is, not that I don't know what the soda in question is)
webon @ Mar 5th 2008 9:19PM
Actually I live in Japan and I know what Hiro's soda is.
AutoTom @ Mar 5th 2008 7:57AM
maybe they re-labeled the leftovers.
Tony_Young @ Mar 5th 2008 8:01AM
The Chocolate Milk on the bottom shelf seems more tempting.
element K @ Mar 5th 2008 2:05PM
Ditto on the chocolate milk, Tony_Young.
mike @ Mar 5th 2008 4:19PM
All drink fridges at MS have to have Chocolate Milk, as this is Bill G's preferred drink.
jonathan @ Mar 5th 2008 8:01AM
this is for the Windows Server 2008 launch that is taking place today and tommorrow...(aka junk launch..and another incomplete OS)
RC @ Mar 5th 2008 9:37AM
Yes. I believe the slogan they're using is "Heroes happen here". I don't understand who they've hired that comes up with slogans like that, but there you go.
Richardh @ Mar 5th 2008 8:02AM
I believe this is about soda however I can't tell if its related to tv shows?
Richardh @ Mar 5th 2008 8:03AM
test sorry
Kent Pribbernow @ Mar 5th 2008 8:16AM
I would have thought Lemon soda the preferred soda of choice in celebrating the launch of Vista. Unless they make a flavor called Edsel.
Tim @ Mar 5th 2008 8:46PM
Ooh! Nice one Kent!
To clarify:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edsel
Poor product execution FTW!
Tran @ Mar 5th 2008 8:37AM
It's to celebrate the launch the zune exclusive podcast of Heroes. At least, that is what the social website says.
BioWare #1 @ Mar 5th 2008 8:43AM
lmao. I like engadget, but this is why I don't consider them journalists. Who writes an article about a product ambiguously called "heroes" and doesn't bother to explain what exactly it is? I guess engadget assumes the only people who read are the ones who read hourly and they don't care about new readers enough to re-cap information.
Actually, it's my fault that I don't know what Heroes is, and in no way should the writers ever assume they need to include this kind of information in their articles.
Actually, isn't engadget just really a big-ass blog-site? That kind of explains their lack of writing abilities.
JC @ Mar 5th 2008 11:15AM
"Actually, isn't engadget just really a big-ass blog-site?"
You forgot the fact that they shill for Apple as if Steve Jobs were personally bending them over and giving them sweet Apple love. But I digress.
pismodude2 @ Mar 5th 2008 8:44AM
Apple stores always give us that smart water stuff when they release stuff...
Josh L @ Mar 5th 2008 10:51AM
Kool-aid with cyanide doesn't make you any smarter =(
pismodude2 @ Mar 5th 2008 11:47AM
??? Kool-Aid? http://www.aquamaestro.com/innerview.asp?catid=39&gclid=CJrwiui19pECFQH1PAod8ijAxA
jason @ Mar 5th 2008 8:57AM
it's not soda but instead flavored water. i see cans like these (without the heroes overlay) all the time in breakrooms at companies around the area - it's a local favorite.
http://www.talkingrain.com/products.asp
wlp @ Mar 5th 2008 8:57AM
i am thoroughly confused
Paul @ Mar 5th 2008 9:26AM
Yep, I was in Redmond at Microsoft and they had these cans in the breakroom.
It's lemon-flavored sparkling water.
In a Microsoft can.
That's it.
The Ludite @ Mar 5th 2008 9:56AM
It's very simple actually.
You DON'T want to see Steve Balmer drunk.
Neal @ Mar 5th 2008 9:58AM
Umm...actually they do this a *lot*
Like about every time the cans get refreshed it's something new, and not always lemon-lime, for Vista they did just the plain sparkling water.
OneLove @ Mar 5th 2008 10:16AM
I love the sweet and sour taste of vista soda.
Rudy_A @ Mar 5th 2008 10:29AM
It's to (internally) advertise for the launch of Windows Server 2008 and the upcoming SQL Server 2008.
Hax Or @ Mar 5th 2008 10:34AM
Heroes refers to a Hero. As in a good guy.
You're thinking that Heroes refers to a TV show... which tells us that you watch too much TV.
I don't watch the b00b tube so I don't associate the word 'Heroes' with a TV show.
However, I have downloaded several HD episodes of Heroes and found it acceptable quality. A gentleman's "C".
Jason Golden @ Mar 5th 2008 11:13AM
www.heroeshappenhere.com It's just the Windows Server 2008 + VS 2008 and SQL Server 2008 launch. Move along.
Don't forget MS did a more public soda can version of the Halo 3 Game Fuel Mountain Dew.
Emre Aydinceren @ Mar 5th 2008 1:48PM

Phoenixfury @ Mar 5th 2008 2:28PM
Heroes soda? Does it make you teleport through time and chase after immortal bad guys hell bend on destroying humanity? Does it make you fly, or hear other people's thoughts? Where can I get some of this gene altering soda?
Josh @ Mar 5th 2008 7:35PM
As fate would have it I happened to be drinking a can of this when I pulled up the article. Yum.
