i would never never never buy a toshiba in my life again. i have one that overheats in 5 min or less (and ive taken it apart about 12 times to clean, only helps a little), had the motherboard replaced because the power jack broke, and the memory is being held in with duct tape and chopstix because the computer wont recognize it otherwise. and this is a toshitty A70, supposed to be one of their "good" ones. oh yea, and forget about it being an actual laptop. so my suggestion is dont ever waste your time with toshiba because they make a horrible-quality product. i hope their whole company goes the way of HDDVD
I own a 17" Toshiba P200, it's not the prettiest laptop, or the lightest, but it hasn't let me down yet. It seems solid, and only overheats when I play Crysis or some other ridiculously new needy game. My dad has an old(1gb hard drive :) ) Toshiba laptop, which still runs. They aren't bad, they're affordable, and they work.
Sorry to hear of your problems Drew, I have an acquaintance that has very similar issues with her laptop, and despite accidentally pulling it off of the kitchen table by it's power cord five or six times, she just doesn't "get it" why it's broken (must be the brand, right?).
I'm a cave explorer, and I've owned 2 Toshiba laptops, and never broken a one.
And two of my caver buddies have used Toshiba laptops for MANY YEARS(which is why I bought one), and despite being hauled into some NASTY, TIGHT, WET, VERTICAL caves, they have NEVER had ANY problems with their Toshiba's either.
