And in most cases it is indeed and AMD. So even if you get a processor that costs the same, the motherboard might cost significantly more for an Intel platform. Is it marketing, or is it really true their product line is slipping? I used to have an Athlon but the MB died b/c of bad capacitors and when I looked for a replacement I found the Core 2 was better for my build. In terms of gaming, ATI and nVidia seems to be mostly on par. Maybe they should just do this for a generation until their in-house technology catches up..
