Minox DC-8011 packs 8 megapixels into a yawner compact
If anything, Minox does a decent job of aping its big name counterparts in looks and feature set -- if only it wasn't on average a couple years late to the party. The Minox DC-8011 seems to be a perfectly passable budget compact, with an 8 megapixel CCD, 2.7-inch LCD and electric image stabilization. It even measures in at under an inch thick and offers 4x optical zoom, but that's about as exciting as things get here -- which is to say, not very exciting. No word on price or availability, but we're not really sure that's much of a loss.

Not exctign at all. Not one damn bit.
derX @ Apr 5th 2008 4:36PM
Wow, when a typo in a blog post about a product is more remarkable than the product itself, that's a really bad sign.
Smart People Play Tuba @ Apr 5th 2008 3:56PM
Just as I thought. Minox . . . chewin' on the power cables.
Jarhead2012 @ Apr 5th 2008 5:52PM

Hopefully they have a good price point, because their seems to be nothing special about it.
rutsy5 @ Apr 5th 2008 4:34PM
They're camera won't do very well if their going to be so late with there features.
SteveBob @ Apr 5th 2008 5:16PM
That's a shame, years ago Minox made some good stuff.
hooeezit @ Apr 5th 2008 4:51PM
Rutsy5, ma man, you made my day! Sadly, many people won't get the joke.
Ignatius @ Apr 5th 2008 6:13PM

Hmmm, my girlfriend's (now discontinued) Kodak EasyShare V603 is sitting in front of me. Me sees a resemblance...

The good news is that you can glue the label of virtually any camera brand over the "Minox" and fool people into thinking you've got a decent camera. The bad news is you'll never fool yourself into thinking that.
tutut @ Apr 6th 2008 11:38AM
Who's minox and what is so exciting about this ? These people are late, many companies out there already got their 8 MP and over that already. Even a company like Aigo already got 8.2 MP long ago.
tutut @ Apr 6th 2008 12:03PM
Sony already pumped out the 12 MP last year, Canon, Panasonic, Nikon, Aigo already spilled the beans with 10 MP

"Who's Minox?"
Geez man, do a little research. Minox is photo equipment company that's been around for a long time. They are most famous for making very small cameras that were considered to be "spy" cameras many years back. You can check out a very comprehensive Minox website here:

In today's ultra-competitive marketplace I have no idea if their digital cameras hold their own but their place in photographic history is firm.

This camera has a wide lens (28mm equivalent).
Very few point and shoot cameras have a lens this wide.

Whoopee!
