Video: HPI's G-Dog will hunt
Announced last week, we now have the first video of HPI's G-Dog courtesy of Impress. HPI's definitely not going for cute and cuddly here; this cyberdog's all bite and surprisingly quick and nimble on that slick tabletop. As such our plans to slather the Earth in linoleum after the uprising look sufficiently foiled. Damn you H.P.Iiiiiiii! Click through for the action, while you still can.

I was really hoping to see giant metal jaws. Oh well. I take it this isn't the finished product, and that a cute fluffy covering will go over it? Nice movements. Will it be the usual random action stuff, or will it incorporate advancements with sensors and programming as well?

WIRES!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whyfore there be wires there? How can I make him patrol my house if there's wires?!?!
Only slightly kidding. He is almost suitible enough for my plans of world domination. He needs teeth, big sharp sabertooth teeth. And bigger, he needs to be supersized. Don't forget the laserbeams attached to his head! Hey, can I get a shark model for the moat I am planning to dig? I will have a waterway that has dungeon access for slow, suspensful deaths of overly dramatic proportions!
Cassini @ Apr 11th 2008 9:48AM
Wow, he really IS fast! Think of all the time we'll save having our very own G-Dog fetch a beer from the fridge! "Arf!"
dahood12 @ Apr 11th 2008 9:49AM
Oh yeah, lest we forget the obligitory MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!
Flashpoint @ Apr 11th 2008 9:58AM
In the future, robotic overlord dogs will tell their owners to sit and fetch.
BTW - COD4 is the first game were dogs scared me sh*tless.
Ysleiro @ Apr 11th 2008 12:26PM

More than meets the eye!
This looks like RAVAGE- from Transformers fame!!!
"With enhanced stealth, radar capabilities and proton bombs, Ravage is one of Soundwave's most powerful cassette-bots. An invaluable asset to the Decepticons in their war against the Autobots!"
coincidence, I think not.
Randy @ Apr 11th 2008 10:46AM
Thank you! finally, someone else noticed and commented.
Jason @ Apr 11th 2008 11:28AM
now if only G-Dog could transform into... a cassette tape?
cybereality @ Apr 11th 2008 2:37PM
I still have that figure (although the leg is damaged). Have no idea where the rest of the collection went but THE CASSETTE SURVIVED!!!
Brent @ Apr 11th 2008 10:20AM
The dog appears to be controlled with a sixaxis or dual shock 3. I wonder if it rumbles when G-Dog makes a kill...or gets hit by a car.
John @ Apr 11th 2008 10:23AM
Great, now we have to worry about a Terminator Lassie. John Connor is so fucked.
Sockninja @ Apr 11th 2008 11:38PM
I shall call him crappy....

"...G-Dog will hunt..."
In a just issued clarification, huntin' G-Dog's olfactory prowess, as his name would imply, seems to be limited to the detection of G-spots. HPI's all female research team is understandably elated with this unexpected breakthrough, and was seen to be exchanging hymen-fives all around...

Xenoterranos @ Apr 11th 2008 2:05PM
"...hymen-fives..."
Damn, now _thats_ agility. (!)
Darshi Gurusinghe @ Apr 11th 2008 10:28AM
Isn't it ironic that we try to improve on nature by mimicing nature and are so impressed with ourselves.
Maestro @ Apr 11th 2008 10:33AM
I was expecting something....bigger. It reminds me of the aliens from Hitchickers Guide who were the tiny little guys flying around...
yngv27 @ Apr 11th 2008 10:44AM
who were, coincidentally, eaten by a small dog.
monkeyfan @ Apr 11th 2008 11:03AM
I'm eagerly awaiting the model that has a Glock 21 as a head.
Throw in Picatinny rails for accessories (instead of ears?) and really make that 'bitch' hunt.
Sic 'em Gretchen!
Jomolungma @ Apr 11th 2008 11:11AM
And they named him Fido. Neal Stephenson would be proud.
georgechristodoulou @ Apr 12th 2008 1:12AM
Wow, this is pretty cool. I remember the first robot dog that came out, nothing like this...'
Thanks,
George Christodoulou

Nice fast twitch reaction time. This is the Spike the Bulldog to Sony's Aibo the Terrier. Now all it needs is a few extra pounds a Bowler and Red Turtleneck ;^)...

I wish to see it lick its robotic balls.

that was terrifying
carlos @ Apr 11th 2008 12:11PM
But can it play Dead?
OneLove @ Apr 11th 2008 12:07PM
bigDog FTW!
BigD145 @ Apr 11th 2008 12:27PM
Why can't I see spot run?
fashionista @ Apr 11th 2008 12:28PM
Fake!!! Everyone knows a dog can't walk backwards.
Xenoterranos @ Apr 11th 2008 2:05PM
No, they can't look up.
celerysword @ Apr 11th 2008 3:50PM
killer robot dogs can move in whatever direction they damn well choose. including through soft human necks.
crho85 @ Apr 11th 2008 4:36PM
My dog has walked backwards. But this is also the same dog that barks at the telephone, wraps himself around the deck post and doesn't know how to sleep on a dog bed. One thing is for certain... my dog is "special"
Andrew @ Apr 11th 2008 4:24PM
Dag. I wish my dog had those kinda reflexes.
Though I imagine he'd suffer from a severe case of nausea or instant death associated with the rapid neck movements...
Hmmmmmm..... a severe case of death... tasty
Thermos14 @ Apr 11th 2008 4:27PM
Very clever of our future Robot Overlords to disguise themselves as our best friends.
bo sneb @ Apr 11th 2008 9:14PM
G-Dog? with a name like that they shoulda gone all the way and called it G-Dawg
Yuri @ Apr 13th 2008 11:36AM
Does this remind anyone of the mechanical hound from the novel Fahrenheit 451?
Oh dear, we're soon going to hit the time where books are illegal and we're all taught to be materialistic morons
Japester @ Apr 14th 2008 12:26AM
My first thought was of the "mechanical hound" of "Fahrenheit 451". It does seem a little chilling.
