Sketchy pictures of new MacBook, MacBook Pro, and 32GB iPhone surface
Whoops! Apple's gone and leaked its brand new aluminum MacBook and redesigned MacBook Pros to the interblogs. Yeah, it seems old Jobsy has really loosened the binds over in Cupertino -- he doesn't care what gets out these days. No, but seriously, some cats on the internet supposedly discovered a .Mac page which appears to display mockups (or actual product renderings) for a new line of laptops, as well as adverts for iTunes 8 and iPhones in the 32GB variety (for Australia, naturally). Of course, this is wild, crazy, unfounded speculation, and likely has no basis in reality at all. Then again, you never know... stranger things have happened. Steve, we await your takedown requests. See full pages for yourself in the gallery after the break.
Update: Looks like MacRumors got duped by its own forum members -- these are fan-made mockups. Oh well, at least we can dream.
[Thanks, al and sleuth]

One of these days I will own a macbook pro, (sigh) :(
Chebwa @ Apr 17th 2008 1:50PM
Talk about ambition.
Marcus @ Apr 17th 2008 1:55PM
Exactly, just without the sigh and the sad smiley. It's people like you who are never going to own a macbook pro.
Jeff @ Apr 17th 2008 2:06PM
I don't think its ever been 'difficult' to afford an Apple product...its just sometimes they don't present enough perceived value in the eyes of some. But I never found them difficult to own.
Pancakes @ Apr 17th 2008 2:12PM
You guys forgot the pics of the 3G iphone:

BTW, this is the original of that piss poor "Australia iPhone" photoshop. Notice that they did not even bother to re-add the reflections.

You don't need to buy an overpriced, underpowered CrapBook.

"Update: Looks like MacRumors got duped by its own forum members -- these are fan-made mockups. Oh well, at least we can dream."
Exactly why Engadget shouldn't be trusting some site called "MacRumors". Obviously, my wild guess is that it's a fan site about Macs and other Apple products. Surprise, surprise.
Seriously, Engadget, I don't expect you to be the top professionals in tech, but why post up a story like this? Obviously we should note the fact that:
1. This is from MacRumors - not the most reliable site, and obviously very Apple-fan filled.
2. The photos themselves - Blue background, wasn't that OS X Tiger?
3. Apple rarely leaks anything - Apple has some thing where they like to keep users on their toes, and give them a surprise every now and then. I doubt they changed their minds for this.
So a useless article, showing useless fan-made artwork, and a probably embarrassed (or should be) reporter. I'm betting if mock-ups of other popular products came through on other fan sites, they wouldn't get a mention on Engadget.
kuade @ Apr 17th 2008 11:40PM
I just don't have the need to fully justify a Macbook pro. My Vista laptop with a dual core Intel processor does just fine for using the internet to invest and research stocks. You will go broke trying to have the latest greatest technology but I would rather be frugal with my money. Please don't hate on me because I don't own a mac, you Apple fans should be happy that I am admitting to settle with a PC. Go ahead, keep buying a new Apple product every 6 months, my portfolio will thank you. How is that for ambition?

Apple DISCONTINUED the XServe Raid, which is pictured
fake.

www.apple.com/xserve
looks very discontinued to me.
Seth A @ Apr 17th 2008 2:57PM
The xServe RAID was discontinued, not the xServe. Pay attention. You thought to be proving yourself smart, but rather you made a fool of yourself.
On another note, I am surprised to see Engadget post this. Anybody could tell these are fake. Apple rarely recycles stuff to promote something new, as see with the iTunes 8 thing, that was used for the iPhone. And anybody with half a brain can see some bad photoshop work on that "Pure Beauty. Pure Power."
Nick M. @ Apr 18th 2008 10:14AM
@ Seth
and you could have been helpful and nice about it all and said.. that the RAID was discontinued they are now going with the Promise VTrak RAID Solution.

And you tried to make yourself feel better by beating on a guy for a simple mistake, even though chances are he has little to no server knowledge at all.
Congrats to you. :P
J.Am @ Apr 17th 2008 1:36PM
Why would it have a Tiger wallpaper?
fR00r @ Apr 17th 2008 2:04PM
exactly !!
bookemdano @ Apr 17th 2008 1:37PM
Unless they shrank the keyboard that ain't no 13" MacBook.
David Vogt @ Apr 17th 2008 1:38PM
"Of course, this is wild, crazy, unfounded speculation, and likely has no basis in reality at all."
Then why post it? :X
trumpton @ Apr 17th 2008 1:44PM
When Toshiba actually announces ACTUAL updates to its entirely reasonable Qosmio and Dynabook laptops, Engadget can only muster disinterested "yawns" and "naps" - yet when it's something Mac-based, even when they know it's a load of old made-up bollocks, then it's EXCITING NEWS, Goddamit!
Brian @ Apr 17th 2008 1:59PM
I agree! I love my Toshiba! Even with Vista. Seriously, I do.
potato @ Apr 17th 2008 2:09PM
Brian: You are crazier than me, then. My Toshiba was a hunk of junk. Way too big, way too heavy, the fan was louder than a jet engine taking off, wireless reception was crap... It was easily the worst laptop I've ever spent money on.
So much happier with the MacBook Pro now... I'd take a Lenovo too... Anything but Toshiba.
StreetStealth @ Apr 17th 2008 2:09PM
Joshua's summary misses one point that makes this a much more interesting situation:
The site had login information for a working iTunes account... that ended in @apple.com. So *someone* at apple had *something* to do with this, even if it's just a low-level employee who wouldn't actually have access to this stuff.
What that means for the photos/mockups etc. I don't know, but this is indeed a very strange find.
jollyllama @ Apr 17th 2008 2:41PM
I'd actually ask, if you're so offended by this, why you took the time to click the link, scroll to the bottom of the page, and type your "comments". Seriously, why would you waste your time on that?
David Vogt @ Apr 17th 2008 2:45PM
@ jollyllama
And if you're so offended by my rightful complaint, why waste time doing the same to my comment?
Pattrick Stinnett @ Apr 17th 2008 1:38PM
2nded. Where's the Leopard wallpaper?
kevinm @ Apr 17th 2008 1:38PM
The Tiger wallpaper and the Xserve makes this a total fake.
PQ @ Apr 17th 2008 1:41PM
Apple doesn't write "the iPhone", because it treats it's products like actual names.
Concura @ Apr 17th 2008 1:41PM
free advertising at its best
-C
Drew @ Apr 17th 2008 1:41PM
I'm sure that Apple will reserve the 32GB iPhone for the next 3G version, give people a reason to switch over and part with more cash...
Just discount the 8GB iPhone in the US already Apple!
Ben @ Apr 18th 2008 3:21AM
Engadget, perhaps the time has come to launch some form of un-official Apple weblog.... A site dedicated to covering every minute detail of every Apple rumor and product. The site could even cover Mac centric software and tips on how to better use your mac...
Just a thought
Mills @ Apr 17th 2008 1:45PM
wait like their sister site tuaw?
clak @ Apr 17th 2008 1:58PM
Where were you guys when Engadget was making posts about the Playable Paper Super Mario? We could have really used your life saving sarcasm then, but you bastards just abandoned us!
Fernando @ Apr 17th 2008 2:03PM
The funny thing about it that TUAW is always late on the "news" I guarantee that this is not even on it yet as of when I write this.
h8rain @ Apr 17th 2008 4:33PM
To Fernando:
You would be correct, and they don't.....
Thi mam(kris120890) @ Apr 17th 2008 1:42PM
Those macbooks look white. i thought apple discontinued all macbooks in white
happy_penguin @ Apr 17th 2008 2:06PM
No.
Allan @ Apr 17th 2008 1:42PM
I was going to reply to Blue Sunshine there... but I don't reply to website spam posts.
Anyway... the MBP pic does it for me... looks like they just wrote over some other pic. If they were "official" in any sense of the word, I would hope they'd do them up properly.
oliver @ Apr 17th 2008 1:42PM
This is all so fake - they have Tiger backgrounds, the iTunes announcement has the apple logo from last year's macworld, and the "Australia" is not written in Myriad Pro - Apple's signature typeface.
Chris @ Apr 17th 2008 1:47PM
Thats the best they can do, the iphone picture could be faked by anyone.
tb @ Apr 17th 2008 1:47PM
damn, the shitty MB/MBA keyboard is coming to the pro, might as well get a dell then, stupid apple
PDubNYC @ Apr 17th 2008 3:16PM
nope, stupid you for falling for a hoax and getting pissed at Apple about.
farfisa @ Apr 17th 2008 1:48PM
Do these even need to be debunked?
Kyanges @ Apr 17th 2008 1:49PM
"F-Pure Beauty, Pure Power"?
Blue Sunshine @ Apr 17th 2008 1:49PM
It's not a spam post, it's more of a "if you enjoy horrid attempts of humor such as above, go here".
Anyway, yeah they def. wrote directly over the Macbook Pro pic. At least if you're going to throw in a cheesy fake ad, go the extra mile and fix the blobs at the beginning and the end of text.
tony @ Apr 17th 2008 3:44PM
If Apple we're going to emulate the iMac design in one of the laptop lines it would only be logical if it we're the MacBook. Keep the consumer lines all matchy matchy. I call shenanigans.
Mark Thomson @ Apr 17th 2008 1:52PM
I call FAKE, the MacBook Pro image is too badly photoshoped, the Al MacBook is strong, but not going to be in the same gray as pro products, they may even colour them to match nanos, think of who the target market is.
the iphone is a gas, we know it's getting 32GB, but words is the revsion has the phone lose some weight and possibly lose the chrome.
and! WTF, No app store! and still using MJB's album cover! that was old when the current one came out!
the itunes 8 or as it may cleaverly be referd to as itunes 08 ;) well thats just off the iphone announcment poster from last year!
Omg and glass screen on a MBP! yea, cos that will make it light!, you only get glas in an MBP when its got a multi touch screen - which jobs him self has stated is in devlopment when the redesinged iMac was launched.
Sor for the rand but god, soo fake!
Bryant @ Apr 17th 2008 1:53PM
LOL Yeah like Apple would ever use that f'ed up paste over on "pure beauty. pure power". Not to mention the bad kerning on "06.10.2008".
Galley @ Apr 17th 2008 1:53PM
Man, those images are as fake as my love life!
Larz @ Apr 17th 2008 2:18PM
The "F" is the supposed MacBook Pro image is a capital "P" from the original headline that this sloppy Photochopper didn't even take the time to remove. You can also see the original period on the right side of the image.
Why even post such amature work? Shame on you engadget.
Brandon @ Apr 17th 2008 1:53PM
Hmm... I feel like returning my 1 week old Macbook Air and wait for a new Macbook Pro... MBA is too underpowered.
