Sony reveals healthy helping of new HDD / DVD recorders
We'll go ahead and nix some lingering excitement in the room: Sony's latest line of Hard Disk Drive DVD Recorders are aimed squarely at Europe. Now that we're clear on that, let us introduce to you the HX and HXD lines, which each posses four units that top out at 500GB. The RDR-HX680, HX780, HX980 and HX1080 all come ready to fetch analog broadcasts, while the RDR-HXD790, HXD890, HXD990 and HXD1090 also include a DVB-T digital tuner. The HDX crew can even be ordered with a CI slot, and the whole posse includes an HDMI port (1080p upscaling included), X-Pict Story, USB connectors, BRAVIA Sync and a dedicated SD HDD Handycam connection. Take a look in the read link for the full chart of specifications. [Warning: PDF read link]

Yikes, misread that as "Sony reveals healthy helping of new HD DVD recorders", figured that hell must have frozen over.

So did I!
I bet they did it on purpose :/

You weren't the only one...

The dude who wrote the article knew full well everyone was going to
read it as HD-DVD. Should have spelled out hard disk drive. Sometimes
I wonder why I keep coming back to engadget.
nDee @ Apr 24th 2008 5:14AM
why not hdd/dvd/brd?
Daza @ Apr 24th 2008 1:03PM
Jesus Christ, you really think Engadget are intentionally misleading you just to get more hits?
HDD has been an acronym for Hard Disk Drive for decades before "HD DVD" came along. These units are HDD/DVD recorders, nothing but. Why make an already long title longer by spelling out HDD? Why not expand on DVD while we're at it?
:-)

Sexi. Why only Europe?
Andrew @ Apr 23rd 2008 3:52PM
It's probably for Europe only because of the DVB-T...
xtremesniper @ Apr 23rd 2008 3:38PM
Still no HD recording, even if its through component cables. These HDDs are big enough now, let's get going already!
pfromg @ Apr 23rd 2008 3:51PM
why isn't this bluray , if DVD was yesterday?
Adam Daniel @ Apr 23rd 2008 4:02PM
Because recording to optical is the day before yesterday.
OneLove @ Apr 23rd 2008 6:03PM
Aw, did that ruin your life? Sometimes I wonder why you come back also.
