The PS3slim is a long way off yet. This heatsink only saves marginal space and weighs about 400 grams less...whoopdy crap. It saves power and keeps it cooler that's what matters.

Personally, I could care less about a PS3slim anyway, it's not like I carry it around with me. Maybe you don't understand- the Cell is great, but I can guarantee you a LOT more engineering when into the 360's GPU than the Cell, its just not as publicized because the same type of GPU was being designed for PC release in the near future (in relation to the launch of the 360).

The cooling system in the PS3 is a bit out of whack, and the size of the CPU in the PS3 doesn't have much to do with it, considering that a single core of any CPU isn't going to produce as much heat as 3. The heat sink in the PS3 is all over the place and hardly efficient. If you put it in the 360, the 360 would be worse off than what it has now- that is how bad it is.

Zeus.:God

Comments on Furukawa Electric shows off third-generation PS3 heatsink

When I get a PS3 next month, I want to get the 60gb model (1st generation) because it has all the features like 4 USB ports and memory card readers and the PS2 hardware for best PS2 backwards compatibility.

Too bad its the most power-hungry, consumes 200 watts compared to 160 for the 40gb (without PS2 hardware).

Anyone know if these new upcoming models will have software BC like the 80gb or none like the 40gb?

Ninjakamster

Comments on Furukawa Electric shows off third-generation PS3 heatsink

BC > ALL

Aguiluz

Comments on Furukawa Electric shows off third-generation PS3 heatsink

um taking away heatpipes is bad... glad I have a 60gb

slarity

Comments on Furukawa Electric shows off third-generation PS3 heatsink

If you dont need them, they save on the cost and weight of the machine.
