Black EeePC 900 appears in the wild, goes well with dinner
Although the Eee PC 700 comes in a whole rainbow of colors, the big brother 900 has only made appearances in white so far -- but it looks like ASUS has been quietly prepping a black version as well. These pics just popped up on Flickr with virtually no explanation, but that's definitely a black Eee PC 900 next to someone's terrifying dinner. Seriously, that thing is looking at us. Hit the read link for several more shots.

that food somehow makes the EEE less appetizing, but seriously I want one of those badboys so bad I would probably eat that concoction.
OneLove @ Apr 30th 2008 12:33PM
You guys never seen a whole fish on a plate before? Its scary cause the head is on? lol
g @ Apr 29th 2008 8:47PM
damn. and the pc is crap.
Mat @ Apr 29th 2008 8:48PM
Go chump away at your sweet sugar-filled American food, and age badly then!
duffiecochran @ Apr 30th 2008 7:58AM

Five guys burger+fries = unbeatable by anything.
Matt Keller @ Apr 30th 2008 2:59PM
So true. So very, very true.
Seth @ Apr 29th 2008 8:51PM
There's nothing like some fish to swallow down your EeePc.
PG @ Apr 29th 2008 8:54PM
Nice lookin triple E. Although ASUS should be putting ubuntu on these machines. The crapbook air could have only dreamed to be as popular as this machine.
painty @ Apr 29th 2008 9:05PM
looks like someone threw up on the plate closest to the laptop
crice @ Apr 30th 2008 12:25AM
You obviously have not had Asian food before. I had that for dinner.
UCLAbruins @ Apr 29th 2008 9:07PM
hmm something smells fishEEE
Kyle @ Apr 29th 2008 9:19PM
As stupid as that was, I still laughed.
Bryant @ Apr 29th 2008 9:36PM
The person who put the fish next to the eeePC probably had that joke in mind.
riggs @ Apr 30th 2008 8:32AM
i LOL'd
Greg @ Apr 29th 2008 9:11PM
I really like this black 9" EEE !!! It's a shame I already have the black 7" version. I might wait for the third of fourth generation (the one with SLI and quadcore... :) )
For the food, this is a nice taiwanese fish, and the treat is to eat the eye (actually, the eyeball is too hard, you just eat the layer around it). I know that sounds gross, I tried, and it's not that bad (I'm French btw)...
awong @ Apr 29th 2008 9:37PM
I believe it's a red snapper - steamed. Should be able to find in local supermarkets, all around Asia and even in States.
yui @ Apr 29th 2008 11:58PM
I don't think the food have any problem, as its just some typical asian dishes...
but to place a gadget on dining table would make it dirty...especially oily dishes would made the black surface oily...
terrible...
awong @ Apr 29th 2008 9:10PM
black is gorgeous! will it be served on a silver platter?
fuzzy @ Apr 29th 2008 9:14PM
DO WANT
Man, I've been considering selling my 7" 4G for one of these. Extra vertical resolution would be super nice.
Mike MacCana @ Apr 30th 2008 1:24AM
You're considering selling your 7" 4G eeePC for a red snapper?
Well I guess it does come with potatos...
Ryan @ Apr 29th 2008 9:15PM
Jkk also has a half hour video review of the 900, the first in-depth and competent one I've yet seen.
ScOObyDoo @ Apr 29th 2008 9:36PM
I hate video reviews. I wish more sites would just give me the 500 word rundown with a couple of photos, instead of 30 minutes of video.
hesh @ Apr 29th 2008 9:20PM
Man, these things are way better than my Nokia N800 :( I'm gonna have to sell it and get one of these.
Tired_ @ Apr 29th 2008 9:41PM
N800 < Eee PC < N810
rayw @ Apr 29th 2008 9:43PM
Lol it's really funny sometimes watching the obviously-western response to Asian food. Don't knock it until you've tried it, but then sometimes it's difficult to wean people off their MacDonalds diets ... (I'm Aussie by the way). My favourite is to dare friends to eat chicken's feet .. "why, it's delicious! it's like sucking on their toes ..."
Now to go convince the wife to let me buy one.
(Eee-PC, not chicken's foot).
schmitty338 @ Apr 29th 2008 9:55PM
...exactly, it's like they forget that traditional foods like this sustained vibrant and vastly successful nations and populations long LONG before Western civilization began and still do today.
and yet, deep-fried MARS bars and disgusting subpar meat ground into tasteless putrid patties are seen as more appetizing than a freshly steamed delicious fish and veggy dish...
I'm a nutritionist and I just want to SCREAM at the entire North American continent when I see such ignorance like this....
Gus @ Apr 29th 2008 10:10PM
Watch out for Scott, he's a dick!
Nate @ Apr 29th 2008 10:25PM
Could you guys be more dense?
No one is knocking the taste of the food. No matter what it tastes like, a splayed out dead fish isn't the most attractive thing in the world. At the very least, it makes for a funny picture.
Get over yourselves.
schmitty338 @ Apr 29th 2008 10:40PM
How is that NOT attractive? A fresh, untainted, whole piece of delicious meat...mmm...i'm hungry now....
Nate @ Apr 29th 2008 10:51PM
I'll ask it again. Could you be more dense?
ManekiNeko @ Apr 30th 2008 1:43AM
I think I'm the only guy who got Gus' joke.
Rex @ Apr 30th 2008 8:21AM
Damn you! you made me snort with the chicken feet comment!
LOL!
digitallysick @ Apr 29th 2008 9:48PM
Something tells me this picture is from asia...
waterboy99troop @ Apr 29th 2008 11:47PM
you a winnar!... that's a typical dinner setting in a HK home...
konshuss @ Apr 30th 2008 12:29AM
i've said it before, i'll say it again. i'm so glad the screen has been extended to the edges, so it no longer looks like something for a 4 year old.
Tim @ Apr 29th 2008 10:08PM
I was trying to find a larger picture for confirmation one way or the other but alas, nocando. it may just be me, but does that look like a 900 next to the eee pc ( the text on the hinge, not the laptop) to anyone else? because it doesn't to me. could anybody with either the eee (lucky) or more detailed images tell me if I'm just crazy, or what?
schmitty338 @ Apr 29th 2008 10:10PM
Nope...it says: "Eee PC Series"...with Series in script...
etsortee @ Apr 29th 2008 10:15PM
The pics are taken in Hong Kong (according to other pics in the album). you guys should really try those REAL seafoods there (no tuna or fish and chips=P...)...and at least those ground pork looks better than chilli ...
anyway, I wouldn't place any food near my brand new laptop..
Richard Lai @ Apr 29th 2008 10:33PM
I second your comment about Hong Kong's seafood. :D It's good and cheap.
Damn, I won't be back there until mid-August the earliest... :(
awong @ Apr 29th 2008 11:36PM
Seafood in South East Asia (Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia) is much better than Hong Kong ... and cheaper too!
Chomping on your food while checkin a new lappie is definitely not a good idea. Ooppss .. got a couple of spots there!
Ypoknons @ Apr 29th 2008 11:52PM
hahah is that Chuichchow da lan .... and there's a bottle of Watsons distilled water. XD XD
Richard Lai @ Apr 30th 2008 9:20AM
@awong: no way is Singapore cheaper with anything! My family went there and shopping or even museums were out of the question.
I don't know where you are referring to, but Hong Kong seafood is cheap in Sai Kung and on the remote islands (Lamma, Cheung Chau, etc.) if you fancy a day trip - they have nice beaches.
John @ Apr 29th 2008 10:15PM
Rock and pool is nice and cool
So juicy sweet!

that is chum.
ZaxCG2 @ Apr 30th 2008 12:48AM
Excuse me for sounding daft or anything...
But why is like every other Engadget's posts about these alleged 'EeePC' laptops?! What is so special about them?
Don't tell me to look it up or anything because you guys should seriously be able to tell me through all these blog posts. I mean all I know is that they have a black one right now.
Start rethinking the cannon of your posts guys, FOR GOD'S SAKE!
ManekiNeko @ Apr 30th 2008 1:50AM
They're small. They're cheap. What else do you need to know? They're one of the first truly portable computers with a high level of compatibility and a mass market price point. That's a big deal to anyone who had to settle for crappy palmtop PDAs that couldn't do much of anything due to the limitations of Windows CE.
bebop @ Apr 30th 2008 2:22AM
The EEE more-or-less achieves the holy grail of a cheap, useful, and small laptop. You could get any two of those three things before, but not all three. It's revolutionary because it makes the ultraportable a commodity product for the first time, completely changing how we perceive and use these devices. Thus - if you insist on having me spell it out - it has wide general appeal and therefore features prominantly on Engadget. And rightly so.
adrian @ Apr 30th 2008 8:50AM
There's nothing new about this laptop, apart from the so called cheap price, And even that needs to be call in to question nowadays, Along with the battery life. The Eee PC Is just a so what product that people are going loopy over, For no real solid reason, if they open their eyes.
ManekiNeko @ Apr 30th 2008 1:46PM
Zax asked for an explanation. Bebop offered one. Is it really necessary to ARGUE with the explanation? He's trying to be helpful and you're trying to turn this into a fight over the merits of the EEE. It's rather annoying.
bebop @ Apr 30th 2008 2:24AM
Just once Engaget could you make my reply actually attach to the post I intended?
