Danger's Sidekick LX getting video support
Take your focus off of that forthcoming Tony Hawk hiptop a minute and key in on that image above -- looks like Danger's Sidekick LX may be getting video after all. After questioning whether this very device could indeed support video late last year, it looks like the answer could be just around the corner. Unfortunately, the shot above along with one other in the read link is about it for details; we're still waiting to hear whether YouTube / H.264 will be supported, and beyond that, when the update will be made available. Still worried sick over Mr. Hawk? Yeah, we reckoned not.

Pretty sure I dumped my Sidekick when I realized I had to pay for an alarm clock... Dont need one of those when mommy is waking you up, I guess.

The whole Sidekick line is terrible.
Long live Blackberry.
Jon Doe. @ May 3rd 2008 4:50AM
Yah long live them...*looks at his watch*...isn't it time for another outage?

This is how the Sidekick should have progressed:
Sidekick 1: B&W/Color - communicator/web/email
Sidekick 2: Color - Music added
Sidekick 3: Color - Video added (with LX design)
Sidekick LX: Color - Streaming video support
Sidekick .... etc.
So that there are significant updates not just case design updates with the same or very similar OS.

Sidekick 4: Developed by Dange.....errr.. Microsoft
Sabrina @ May 3rd 2008 12:00PM
dammit danger. go on and make me want to keep you a little longer.
this is an abusive relationship, but i'm not sure on whose end.

Actually, if you're familiar with how the development process goes, the existence of a screenshot means little. A video player might have been developed, might even be installed on some actual developer Sidekicks, but there's plenty of great stuff the public will never, ever see that's in that situation, like IRC clients.
I don't have any interest in watching video on my LX -- ooooh, less battery life and a tiny screen; sign me up! -- but I don't have any ax to grind here; I'm just saying that because the development process is organized this way, the screenshot, even the existence of compiled code, doesn't mean the existence of shipping code.
(And yeah, I have a love/hate relationship with the thing, too. It's the only ergonomically decent smartphone -- BlackBerrys force you to use a fn-key arrangement for numeric input, while the Sidekick has a full five-row keyboard. And "ergonomics" and "iPhone" don't even belong in the same sentence. The iPhone is a smartphone the way Rain Man was a math whiz. But they're marketing it as a toy and they get what they deserve for that.)

I'm sorry, but who the hell designs these interfaces? It looks like something I would've done back when I was 13...
Jon Doe. @ May 3rd 2008 2:28PM
Give it about a year. Now that MS owns danger.....say hello to Windows Mobile...what are we on? 6? 7?
Joe.S @ May 3rd 2008 3:12PM
I am in agreement with Bob S here. I loved the OS of my blackberry but wasnt impressed with the ergonomics, was impressed with the functionality of my DASH(winmo 6) but hated the battery life and slow response of the OS... But alas..I am on my 4th Sidekick(slide) and love the way it feels, responds and NEVER crashes... Yes I do agree that for the most part it is intended for the hippity hoppity crowd. But I still get all my email, IM, Web and camera I need. So.... I cant complain other than the price tag(which I will get back when I sell it on ebay)... So no worrys!
I am in agreement, watching "VIDEO" is not a priority for me if I am not able to hit up Foxnews video, youtube or other streaming options... Not lookin to watch full length movies or shows(got my iPOD for that)
ChrisG @ May 3rd 2008 3:37PM
Sidekick users from time to time have been begging for video support but Danger never got around to it. The main reason was that even when developers tried the hardware was too limited so you'd either get less than 1 minute of video. And the whole lack of 3G meant no online videos. I guess Danger's rolling out the video support now because T-Mobile has 3G now (sort of).

someone please let me know when sidekick lx will finally get video support because without that sidekicks r only good for nothing
