FCC signs off on Samsung i770 -- global version of Verizon's i760?
Remember when we caught wind that Verizon was prepping a worldband version Samsung's i760 Windows Mobile piece? That rumor's suddenly gained a lot more credence now that we've seen a so-called SCH-i770 pass through the FCC's hallowed halls, especially considering the device outline's uncanny resemblance to that of the aforementioned i760. We'd previously heard that there might be some HSDPA on board, and while we're not seeing any evidence of that from the FCC's test reports, we can confirm that it'll feature EV-DO, WiFi, and Bluetooth in addition to all the GSM you'll need to get by while roaming through mysterious foreign lands. No word on when we might actually see an announcement about this one, but we imagine Verizon doesn't want to wait that much longer -- the i760 design isn't getting any younger, y'know.

wow guys, that design helps so much. I can really see everything. Good job on the amazing design photo.

First of all, that picture is from the FCC, not 'Engadget Art Labs'. Secondly, if you don't already know what the i760 looks like, google it.

That is because there aren't any better pics with the FCC filing available. The submission date is 01-MAY-2008 and they request some confidentiality in the filing. But since it seems to be a slight alteration of a current Samsung phone (maybe just in the radio, but I don't care enough to research it) that they didn't bother with adding more detailed pics to the FCC filing.
If you want, you can check out links provided by Engadget to see the FCC filing or see the i760.

Yeah I own a i760, I can tell you I'm already tired of it's design. It's a darn good phone but it took so long to come out. Now all the fun is a bit dated.
I wish Samsung comes out with a shocker in Q4. But knowing Big Red will take forever to test it to death.

We sure this not just an update to the SGH-i760? That phone also has a very similar design to the SCH-i760 and that phone is GSM only and has a slide down keyboard.

i760's a joke, with an ill-conceived design and Samsung's trademark crappy battery life. They really need something else and not a just a tweak of this old beast.
TheGeektoriousBIG @ May 4th 2008 4:34PM
Beg to differ on that battery life chum. If you have one, then you probably have your data connection on 24/7 and checking your POP3/IMAP servers every 15 minutes. No wonder. I can go the whole day making calls checking mail and surfing and by the end of they day have 25% left. That's low but that's with normal to power useage.

Personally, I love the phone. I get excellent battery life; with my usage, I go _days_ between charges. My only gripe is its conservative RAM. The specs list it as 64MB but only 56MB is available to the user. After the four default background applications are running, there is really only about 30MB left for programs.
DP @ May 4th 2008 8:54PM
Not much love for Big Red lately, huh?

Would love to see this on Sprint.
