Samsung launches Instinct promotional site
Just in case you haven't learned enough about the forthcoming Samsung Instinct from our hands-on gallery / UI video walkthrough, Sammy has launched a promotional website designed to give you the skinny. Within the site, you can peer at a handful of press shots, get schooled on all of its features and sign up to be notified when it's ready for your hands to be wrapped around it. Nothing too exciting, but those with the Instinct high on their list of next mobile to own will surely find it worth the click over.

Kill yourself.

I just lol'ed.
SIC TR4NSIT @ May 5th 2008 8:08AM
I really want to love this phone, but no WiFi=No Sale. Even with Sprints data network.
Jeff @ May 5th 2008 10:54AM
and just looking at the clunky scrolling/etc makes it apparent that they've missed all the important parts: the details.
Richard @ May 5th 2008 8:10AM
Even though it may or may not be a good device, can't they come up with their own design? The chrome strip around the edge and the shape of the ear-slot is just a tad unoriginal for a touchscreen phone...

I'd rather have the real thing(Apple Iphone).
Argot @ May 5th 2008 8:24AM
The real thing is LG Prada, the iPhone is a Prada ripoff.
fred @ May 5th 2008 8:46AM
"I'd rather have the real thing(Apple Iphone)."
The real thing?
Ok, you're just trolling at this point.
Jeff @ May 5th 2008 10:55AM
@Argot
hahaha that's good.
...i just hope you're not serious...

Just sayin'

I mean this is nice but the Iphone is more attractive.

Two words: Swappable batteries
Apollo @ May 9th 2008 8:12AM
I hope this is better than the HTC Touch, because that was awful. Thank god my contract runs out in time for the 3G iPhone.
Phoenix @ May 5th 2008 10:06AM
It wasn't THAT bad. The Touch Diamond, Touch Diamond Pro and Touch Diamond Dual will be amazing though :P
DJ @ May 5th 2008 8:46AM
Oh dear, another salessuit-driven knockoff of You-Know-What.
Key things of course, are --
1 Can the Samsung match the upcoming YKW upgrade?
2 Will Samsung's software match or exceed YKW's OSX?
This one will doubtless sell OK, but the design of the case and the icons should make us weep for the souls of the 'designers' responsible.
fred @ May 5th 2008 8:49AM
Wow, knockoff.
I guess the Apple shills are out in force yet again to attack a device that has the nerve to be an alternative to their precious Apple product that they think everyone should own.
Apple fanatics are the new Nazis.
Argot @ May 5th 2008 8:54AM
@fred: They just crank up that RDF and convince themselves that the iTurd was the phone of this kind. If you show them the original (LG Prada) they just go LALALALALA I can't hear you!!! Reminds me of creationists... :)
SIC TR4NSIT @ May 5th 2008 9:26AM
@fred>>> If you can't tell, a lot of us have been ignoring the fanboys from all camps. Replying to them only gives them more fuel... Not saying necessarily that DJ is a fanboy, just saying that calling someone on being a fanboy just isn't worth your time and energy.
Roldero @ May 5th 2008 8:47AM
I think it's worth getting just for the "Chargeable USB Cable"!
Wait a minute.. are those sneaky peeps going to charge extra for the cable that comes in the box?
w00t @ May 5th 2008 9:13AM
@Argot
I fail to see how the iPhone could possibly be a rip off of the Prada...
The Prada was announced officially on 18 January 2007, The iPhone was announced at MacWorld on 9 January 2007.
Both phones were rumored before that, the iPhone was rumored constantly for years before!
We know the iPhone was in development for years and probably for longer than the Prada because it was the first handset ever developed by Apple and they had no previous experience.
The truth is neither phone is a rip off, they were developed independently and despite some visual similarities they are very different handsets.
Argot @ May 5th 2008 10:47AM
But yet the Samsung is an iPhone knock off and not a Prada knock off?
lokiju @ May 5th 2008 9:18AM
I really want to like this phone but I just don't think it'll cut it as an alternative to the Iphone 3G
Roland @ May 5th 2008 9:26AM
Man I am trying my best to stay with sprint...but they have to come up better phones...on-time. The curve...late....the Instinct...late. Well I guess 3G Iphone here I come.
Johnny G @ May 5th 2008 10:09AM
£395.00 for an iPhone and 35 quid a month minimum. Buy a cheap nokia and talk to your pals.
pfromg @ May 5th 2008 11:36AM
not everyone is into cheap kit.
Johnny G @ May 6th 2008 5:09AM
“not everyone is into cheap kit.”
Unfortunate but true, but a phone is for talking to people by definition, to ’Phone someone’. Not to waste money should be everyone’s concern. And please don’t buy something just because everyone else has it, look at the spec!
ale215 @ May 5th 2008 9:52AM
I'ts an iPhone copy...
yeah
Achilles @ May 5th 2008 2:56PM
Not an Apple fan at all. I like Samsung however Sprint loves to screw up their phones by yanking the SW and putting in their own worthless crap. Sprint has the worst choices of phones. Love the service (no not customer service) but their phones are the worst.
Whichever antiquated purchasing manager is in charge of buying phones, he needs to resign or retire. I've been with Sprint for years but their phones are always at the bottom. It got worse after the Nextel merger. So sad....
Michael @ May 5th 2008 11:11AM
Hope this phone is as awesome as it sounds on paper.
I'll definitely be checking out the 3G iPhone, but if the Instinct is offered on a SERO plan, it might be enough to keep me with Sprint.
reese @ May 5th 2008 10:42AM
Camcorder
Swappable battery
SD Card memory
are nice features

Iphone ripoff?... Sprint and samsung have been in the phone business for how many years compared to apple?! The iphone is nothing special, it's basically an ipod with a browser and a crappy phone. The iphone can't record viedo, no GPS, no MMS, can't up grade memory, can't change batteries, etc.
Also, people have said " at least the iphone has 8 gigs of built in memory". Let's look at this, an ipod-iphone with 8 gigs can hold how many songs? On a 4 gig memory card on the instinct you can get 2000 songs using sprint music store, which is great I might add. The iphones OS uses 300 megs of memory.
Why would the instinct need wifi when it has EVDO REV A?... I had the HTC mogul with wifi, I never used it because sprints EVDO speeds are great. I haven't seen anywhere you can get wifi on a train or subway, while traveling across the interstate, with EVDO I have been able to. In fact, my sprint usb modem has gotten better speeds than wifi near wifi hot spots.
Lastly, what I have learned is that sprint and samsung have been working on the instinct since before the iphone was launched, actually the euro version was designed before the iphone. If anything samsung took a page from LG's prada, LG and samsung have been making phones off each others styles for years.
DP @ May 5th 2008 1:12PM
Two words: Touch Diamond.
haX0r @ May 5th 2008 3:55PM
After writing my Manifesto the sprint's CEO and managers, they called to tell me I get this phone for free when it comes out. So no complaints here. But I am curious to see Touch's (Slide Out) qwerty and the Xperia when they hit the shelves.
djkissler @ May 5th 2008 3:37PM
I made this when we still had the banner on the Sprint site.

I checked the F490 (European version) in shop and honestly didn't liked it.
The haptic thing isn't perfect and doesn't feel good - especially since touch screen is very unresponsive.
Scrolling works backwards what is very confusing Kind'a reminded me of first Microsoft mice with scrollwheel: they also claimed to scroll document, while everybody expect that it would move scrollbar. There it is logical - it is still very confusing.
Killer to me was the fact that phone is relatively thick. I'd say anything thicket than 10mm is too thick. I have one of the Samsung's slim phones now and the damm thing can be lost in any pocket - regardless how small the pocket is. But Instinct demands some dedicated space, what feels bad after having Z150 for 1+ year now.
Definitive plus for me over iPhone is that it supports DivX. That's one hell of omission on Apple's side. Something ubiquitous as MP3 must be supported out of box.
Fx72 @ May 5th 2008 8:40PM
One of the things I dont like about this phone is that it is running Java and not Windows Mobile. I have a lot of apps that I like and use (games, GPS, etc...) and it would be hard to just give that stuff up. Not sure about this one yet.
Robbysf @ May 12th 2008 6:37PM
So I have searched all the specs/features on the Instinct and no mention of being able to connect phone to a Mac or PC via USB? Am I going to have to hand enter all of my contacts from the Palm Desktop software?
DOMINYC @ Jun 6th 2008 3:56PM
Its getting kinda stupid how everyone is just picking sides. research and investigate before you start judging. Sure the iphone is great, but sooner or later there will have to be something thats better. We have to be honest, iphone cant always be the best in a touch screen phone. thats sounds like monopoly to me when iphone lovers bash every other phone and never give it a shot. Iphone is hot only when "JAILBROKEN". other than that...look at the plan....if you got money and you ballin'....then fork over the cash and use the phone to its full potential. but if you dont, you wont experience the phones full capabilities. it's all about how much your willing to spend on a plan a month that fits your needs and style. if you like to look coo and you got money, and dont mind ATT high priced so-so service...then get iphone...but if you cant afford it..and want a decent unlimited plan...get sprint....and for anyone interested in knowing more about the SAMSUNG INSTINCT..here is a link that was leaked wit a PDF document of the INSTINCT manual
http://www.sprint.com/cdma/assets/pdfs/phone_guides/samsung/samsung_instinct_emg.pdf?id16=instinct
.....as for now...im out.....a phones a phone....in the end....its all about what you want....and how much you can pay...and give shyt their credit when you see it ...dont bash Anything until you experienced things head on....1
