Why oh why couldn't Apple come up with an original laptop design? Or why cant they come up with an original keyboard, where the letters are arranged in a unique way?

These guys use it as a way to try to smear those products. They hope to protect Apple from competition by making it seem that these devices are all just plain awful because they are rectangles like the iPhone. Apple didn't invent the MP3 player
Apple didn't invent the phone
Apple didn't invent touch screens in mobile devices
Macs, while quite tasty, don't fit everyone's needs

That said, in my PERSONAL experience, Apple manages to take existing technologies and A) make them look good, and B) introduced superior user interfaces. I, for one, welcome the competition, as it leads to innovation on both sides. Seriously, I drank the kool-aid, I didn't baptize myself in it.
