Dell screwed up by making the right-shift key smaller instead and shifting the whole row of keys over one position.

Instead of putting backslash in its correct spot (for UK users), they're just moving the bottom row of letters back their correct location and stuffing the backslash in the spot that's left over, in between the question mark and right-shift keys.

If you take a look at the pictures you'll see that the left shift key is the same size in both pics. The real problem is that the back-slash key is in wrong position. Why lie about this?

I'm guessing they got an amazing deal on these keyboards but nobody noticed what was wrong until the units had shipped and customers started complaining.

Like Adam I'd want to know if the keyboards are wired wrong or if the customers are just complaining because the letter on the screen doesn't match the letter on the key.

That's bullshit of course, just a lame attempt at giving a explanation for the horrible mistake they made.

It's a spacing issue. In the original layout, the letters on the bottom row were off.

We made a mistake. That's why we are going to send replacement keyboards to any affected customers in Europe.

He explains it pretty well: http://direct2dell.com/smallbusiness/archive/2008/05/08/europe-vostro-keyboard-issue-what-we-re-doing.aspx]]>May 8th 2008 10:32PMhttp://www.engadget.com/2008/05/08/dell-to-replace-all-european-vostro-1310-and-1510-keyboards/http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/08/dell-to-replace-all-european-vostro-1310-and-1510-keyboards/any idea what, if anything, dell is doing to also correct/replace the goofed up FRENCH keyboards on the vostro? i just received my vostro 1510 a couple of days ago, and the keyboard is driving me insane. on the french keyboards, normally the right shift key is rather large, and the left shift key is smaller and has the just next to it (between it and the w). the one that i received, though, is just the opposite: the left shift key is bigger, the right one is smaller, and the key has been moved over to the right side of the row just next to the RIGHT shift key. thus the reason i'm basically avoiding caps here; i'm a touch typist, and every time i try to shift on the right to capitalize a letter, i wind up typing the < symbol instead. very aggravating, to say the least.

i would really appreciate any info you could give me on this!! particularly if replacements are being sent out for these, and if there's anything we can do in the meantime to make the key also function as a shift key. i realize this may need to be handled by someone in france, but if you have to refer me to someone, it'd be great if they were english speaking. even though i live in france and thus have a french keyboard (needed to produce various symbols when writing in french), i am american and speak/write much better english than i do french.
