Samsung gets official with B&O-infused F400 dual slider

Mmm hmm. That F400 dual slider we originally got wind of in February is the real deal, as confirmed by Samsung today. Designed with music aficionados in mind, the handset is equipped with ICEpower from Bang & Olufsen, which gets complemented with a 3-megapixel camera (with AF and a LED flash), 2.2-inch display, 3.5-millimeter headphone jack, twin stereo speakers, music hot key, FM tuner, Bluetooth 2.0, a 1GB microSD card and USB 2.0 connectivity. The unit itself is built on HSDPA tri-band technology, and while we know you US'ers would love to wraps your paws around it, Sammy would rather dish it out to the French in black / white motifs later this month, while sending it to other regions of Europe, Asia and the Middle East shortly thereafter. Tough noogies.

the pone itself looks nice, but i'm missing the ponit of the dual slider. together with B&O (as we call it here Bedriegers & Oplichters (Liars & Swindlers) it won't be the pone for me. it looks like it isn't a full 3G phone, so it's not worth the money anyway. besides that, i don't like sliders, since they are to fragile.

Yes it does. that's why he mentioned it.

It's an optical illusion. when you move it up and down really quickly, the wires on the sides appear to be going the opposite direction (particularly the ones in the middle)

What is ICE going to do to the battery life? I'm looking at getting a set of their Beolab 4 speakers, which have ICE amplifiers in them, and each one needs a power plug. Obviously I wouldn't expect the phone to have the exact same thing inside.. but still... it's gonna draw some power.

ICEpower is the amplifier house of Bang & Olufsen. Basically, they're purely digital amps, with sound quality akin to a pure class A (analog) amp, like a tube amp. The great part is that they draw much less current than a similar output class AB (think MOSFET) amp, while produceing the same, if not more sustained output power, and are m8uch smaller. Also, because they are so efficient, they also produce much less heat than a class AB amp. So, in essence, you get a much more powerful, smaller, cooler, and battery-friendly amp to put into small devices such as cell phones. More power = better speaker options = better sound from the device. The benefits also extend to home audio. They really hit the nail on the head with these amps, and you can find them in extremely high-end audio equipment like Jeff Rowland amps, B&W subwoofers have them now, and even the Engadget community's favorite pinup company Pioneer put them in their Elite receiver (the big one). You'll see more ICEpower amps in the future in many other brands.
