ASUS prepping to sue Gigabyte over "disinformation"
ASUS is firing up the legal team to address what it perceives as defamation on the part of Gigabyte. In the line of fire is ASUS' Energy Processing Unit, which Gigabyte claims isn't a technological change on the part of ASUS, but instead "numbers marketing" and "cheating end users." Gigabyte says ASUS also misrepresented the energy saving numbers on Gigabyte's competing DES motherboards, and had plenty of other nerdy trash talk for its rival. "How can you believe it? Everything [Asus] say are lies," was the money quote from a Tom's Hardware article on the subject, and ASUS isn't going to take it lying down. "This 'disinformation' is not only extremely damaging to ASUS but also completely misleading to the consumers. ASUS reserves the right to take legal action against any individual, organization or corporation which creates or spreads such rumors." We love a good nerd fight, and this is shaping up into a right proper one.

misinformation*, not "disinformation"
proper english ftw!
Chad @ May 17th 2008 7:21PM
Try again...
disinformation: false information deliberately and often covertly spread (as by the planting of rumors) in order to influence public opinion or obscure the truth
Based upon his statement, disinformation is the correct usage.

Yeah, my bad.

Asus is prepared to sue...itself?!
gad get @ May 17th 2008 7:52PM
Eh? Am I missing something here?
bakacoriolis @ May 18th 2008 1:20AM
ASUS owns 49% of a main subsidiary of Gigabyte which makes video cards and motherboards :)
Neoprimal @ May 18th 2008 3:06AM
Maybe it's some new type of advertisement. Since noone really cared about EPU.
After this whole Gigabyte vs. Asus thing...Asus EPU willl be all over the press and it won't be a 'I'm tooting my own horn' deal.
Asus will 'decide' not to 'sue' Gigabyte and all will be back to normal, with EPU on the tongues of quite a few tech. websites and blogs.
Findeh @ May 17th 2008 7:47PM
I especially like the image.
If anyone puts down my comment, I'll sue them.
gad get @ May 17th 2008 7:51PM
I'm not putting down your comment.
The Ron @ May 18th 2008 12:51AM
Look at the bottom of the image: "Confidential Document Not For Distribution." Lol. Obviously that has been breached. ;)
dale_nx26 @ May 17th 2008 8:27PM
i really dislike my asus motherboard...
Tony Rayo @ May 17th 2008 8:41PM
Is this something you can just turn off in the bios? ASUS makes good motherboards overall, but it looks like they threw something out there that wasn't all it claimed to be.
Thi mam(kris120890) @ May 17th 2008 8:54PM
oooh i love a good slagging between companys. i say asus will probanly win when gigabyte back down.
Ferdinand @ May 17th 2008 8:56PM
ASUS should sue Gigabyte for their use of Engrish!
!!! @ May 17th 2008 11:19PM
I'm surprised nobody picked up on the whole "FAIL" bit.
Rebel6381 @ May 17th 2008 10:12PM
Its certainly getting vicious between the less media spotlight companies. I guess MS vs Apple just isn't as fun anymore so the other guys are taking a swing at it, first NVIDIA and Intel and now ASUS and Gigabyte...bring it on biotch

Why am I imagining chinese lips running a mile a minute out of sync with what I just read?
Twaddle @ May 18th 2008 10:38AM
Maybe because your general exposure to the world at large is limited?

kkkk
DarkUltra @ May 18th 2008 8:54AM
i'm surprised no-one reacts to Asus threaths. Ok there are some critisism about but threathen individuals and companies with legal action? That is so SCO. If Asus can't live with free speech they can take their bad culture elsewhere.
adrian @ May 18th 2008 5:09PM
These are very serious business killing allegations though, ASUS has to respond.
justin @ May 18th 2008 10:32AM
I wish companies would learn English if they intend to write in it.
tekdroid @ May 18th 2008 10:27PM
Asus can talk... if I recall correctly they were the first (if not one of the first) to ship with slightly factory-overclocked buses (claimed to be running default) to win in all the popular online fanboi benchmarks differentiating themselves from 'the rest'...and building their name from cheating...
Of course now it's common practice...
Corey @ May 19th 2008 10:28AM
EPU Fail?
What? No-one?
I'll get my coat...
88-ei @ May 24th 2008 5:01AM
Asus are biased traitors, their new PQ5 series is SUPPOSEDLY EE rated 1st seems like they lack proof of that, and second, they are flimsy idiots who havent put out any good boards for the AM2+ platform in a huge while, let alone EE rated, and shows whos ass theyre kissing! ppl shouldnt be getting intel chips cos, used alone on daily basis they suck a min of 65watts and cost around $100 dollars more on a yearly power bill. cpu effiency and low power is criucial for a fanless silent pc, stable overclocking power savings, and the green cause.
88-ei @ May 30th 2008 7:26AM
actually via is the master of efficient cpus, motherboads, and silent pcs
asus and other motherboard makers should take a look at via's genius
and learn from it.

Gigabyte is really hoist by his own petard. See here:
