I would really like to slap one of these in a ultra small form factor case, shove it under the cabinets in my kitchen, bathroom etc and have an always on PC, available, but not eating power.

Roll on Q3. Well done Intel.

This is going to make a lot of difference, or should do, to those looking to make the leap to a sub-notebook, especially if they have purchasing cycle of more than 2 years.

I think it would also be interesting to have a look back at Dell's road map, the sub notebooks seemed to be just below the horizon if I remember rightly, with the horizon falling around September/October.

I would pay a little extra for the security of having a Dell and the service that goes with that...Oh... and of course Windows. (I do like my Vista, I would like it if it would be comfortable in this platform and chip.

Who knows, we might even start to see some even bigger price drops all around on the sub-notebooks, as the competition goes up, together with volumes and the resultant economies of scale.

We are getting to a point of "real" choice in this arena.

I think though also, we should expect to see some differences open up in the "quality" aspects. I think that as our demand for newer and newer technology in our bags, goes up, our need therefore for longevity, will go down. (I want my laptop to last no more than 2 years -so I can get with the latest chip, more processing power, less energy, lighter, etc). I think that in many countries this is the case with Mobile phones.

Anyway. I think that is a little calmer.

kccboy2004

Comments on Intel Atom 330 coming Q3, more details come to light

plz just stfu

jew123

Comments on Intel Atom 330 coming Q3, more details come to light

Let the man speak, even if he is a rambling lunatic or some famous actor. The entire Asus 7inch eeePC (not sure about the 9 inch) uses a mere 11 watts of power (display, wifi, chipsets, etc..). Also, the single core model of the Atom uses only 2 watts of power, unless I'm mistaken. How does adding 1 more core result in 3-4x more power consumption? Shouldn't these numbers be much more linear?

Andrew

Comments on Intel Atom 330 coming Q3, more details come to light

Atom may be an embedded CPU in future but for it isn't now for sure.

8W of TDP might be an effect of a higher voltage due to some technical aspects (MCM packaging? shared FSB? improving yields?).

B

Comments on Intel Atom 330 coming Q3, more details come to light

Oh Jew123.

That is not very nice at all.
