Gigabyte M912 netbook in the trade-show wilds
More from Taipei. This time, it's Gigabyte's M912 low-cost laptop entry sporting Intel's soon-to-be ubiquitous Atom processor. After Computex kicks off tomorrow, anyway.
Update: Sassy press shot and official specs after the break.

How much is the cost of a touchscreen going to add compared to the likes on the MSI wind, Asus eee??
Craig @ Jun 2nd 2008 8:35AM
Does anyone know if the 'touchscreen' means you can write on it like a tablet computer? Or is it simply like a UMPC or iPhone style screen?
If they can price it $500-$750 count me in!
teecas @ Jun 2nd 2008 8:46AM
Looks like the screen can be twisted, so I guess we'll be able to write on it like a tablet pc!
Chris Han @ Jun 2nd 2008 8:53AM
It's $660.
Jaque-o @ Jun 2nd 2008 10:50AM
So adding 6 bucks to the price tag would be an evil thing to do eh?
Scentedflame @ Jun 2nd 2008 8:41AM
That is not an attractive photo of this laptop. Couldn't they have at least used clear tape?
Skullgrl @ Jun 2nd 2008 8:43AM
I can't wait until Computex starts. So many things are being announced or released.
This looks like a really good idea if it isn't too expensive.
PEZ @ Jun 2nd 2008 1:27PM
IS that really you in the photo!? nice!
Skullgrl @ Jun 2nd 2008 1:31PM
No, thats my plastic reincarnation. But I am female... If that's what you mean.

Excuse me?
My original comment was on topic. Someone else's was not. But why can't I respond to that? And goodness you don't need to be sarcastic or snarky. Leave that to the fanboys.

"Please do not take a picture"
"Oh! Good" (mouth promised, but still take up the camera clicks)
BobTurbo @ Jun 2nd 2008 8:51AM
It won't be as successful as the MSI Wind.
Booshack @ Jun 2nd 2008 3:09PM
Very true, the Wind is shaping up to be an incredible machine. The one-touch under/overclocking and reported top notch build quality and keyboard seals the deal for me.
Tom @ Jun 2nd 2008 5:18PM
I think I have to disagree. Although the price will be a big factor, having an inexpensive tablet on the market could result in Gigabyte finding a niche market.
darkstar @ Jun 2nd 2008 8:57AM
love the idea of a cheapo tablet.
but im still waiting for a sliding form factor!
Daren @ Jun 2nd 2008 9:02AM
say again?
links to said tabletpc form factor?
teasphere @ Jun 2nd 2008 9:01AM
I just wish one of these small laptops would sport a DVI port over VGA, it is my only holdout and will probably force my hand to a Macbook as a result. I use my laptop 50% of the time hooked to my TV to stream movies from my media server. Otherwise it is one of these VGA units and a game console or something like that as neither Roku nor AppleTV can do it.
Booshack @ Jun 2nd 2008 3:09PM
Reflective screen.
Next.
Kai @ Jun 2nd 2008 2:50PM
Err, I think the reflection is due to a piece of plastic stuck onto the screen...
I really hope the screen isn't reflective, 'cos I dislike reflective screens too... hopefully the screen will be usable under sunlight as well. Then we can get a cheapo version of a Fujitsu Lifebook P1620!

YAML - Yet Another Mini Laptop
Jaque-o @ Jun 2nd 2008 10:55AM
Yuo make it sound like that's a bad thing?
The more mini notebooks out there the lower the prices eventualy will be, which means i might actually one day be able to efford one !
I say keep 'm commin' !!!
Jaque-o @ Jun 2nd 2008 10:57AM
Yuo = You, for everyone that even remotely feels like bashing me for my bad grammar and spelling ;)
futurepastnow @ Jun 2nd 2008 11:06AM
Excellent, a convertible tablet.
nVening @ Jun 2nd 2008 11:13AM
shame the keyboard doesnt go right up to the edges
gm76 @ Jun 2nd 2008 11:45AM
But can it slice cake?
Nick Ritch @ Jun 2nd 2008 12:28PM
I think it's ugly as hell but, I like that the screen is higher res and if it turns out to have tablet functionality that also would be a plus.
jdmbo1 @ Jun 2nd 2008 12:38PM
Unless the touch input is waccom, I probably won't be picking this up anytime soon.
Steve @ Jun 2nd 2008 5:11PM
Optional CPU swings it for me....
Bart Smastard @ Jun 2nd 2008 7:36PM
Does anyone else see the image of a naked male torso in that plastic film over the screen in the top photo???
I also see a spooky face.
My therapist will be disappointed we'd been making such great progress :|
Joshua Walters @ Jun 2nd 2008 9:07PM
Make it under $600 and Im sold.
What can I say, Im a cheap student finishing highschool (I am doing three college courses per semester, so I would have use for this...)
Im still leaning towards the 2133 or Atom Eee, especially if the touch screen makes this thing quite expensive.
kyuzor @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:46PM
I want one :'( with 2GB RAM and 4HD :) but i will be too if is 40HD :)
I want one :'(
I want one :'(
I want one :'(
tonster @ Jun 6th 2008 2:20AM
Man this is the hit thingy!! Touch screen?! Lightweighted?! ATOM cpu?!
I saw the machine at computex 2008 in tapei yesterday tested the machine was awsome but won;t release til mid july however the retail price was shocking its going to be around 17000-19000 NT(currency rate 1USD = 30.3x NTD) which is a really decent price comparing to other tablet pcs…
PS: It works with both MS.XPs or Linux OSs
It would make it perfect if it could also have a build in GPS receiver
