Honlai reveals palm-sized MP100 LED projector
Honlai may not be a household name just yet, but if it can up the resolution on its minuscule projectors just a hair, there stands a decent chance for it to become one. Details are pretty scarce right now, but we do know that the MP100 LED mini-projector utilizes LCoS micro-projection technology and can throw up a 640 x 480 image between 5- and 37-inches. We're also hearing that it packs a modest 200:1 contrast ratio and a lamp good for some 20,000 hours of use. Not a peep on pricing / availability, but we'll be keeping an ear to the ground for more on either.

Its obviously gonna cost alot.
Wwhat @ Jun 4th 2008 8:24AM
With those specs? I doubt it, this is just a very large cell phone projector.
The Apple @ Jun 4th 2008 7:56AM
Looks kinda like an Alien......
Jaque-o @ Jun 4th 2008 9:25AM

Darkroom @ Jun 4th 2008 11:40AM
a sexy alien...
maff @ Jun 4th 2008 7:59AM
man that's a render and the specs are not too good, i'd go bulky at the mo fo sho, the design is kinda cool tho
Godskitchen @ Jun 4th 2008 8:14AM
For the love of god..............200:1 contrast ratio...........I just dont have the words anymore.
Just dont bother to list it as a spec, really.
tjh @ Jun 4th 2008 11:56AM
That purple thing is a hinge, not a lens. If you go to the about projectors link you'll see that the front comes up and the lens is opposite the buttons. So the lens is on the side that we cant see in this picture.
Skeptic @ Jun 4th 2008 8:24AM
It was either rendered back in the 80's, or you're going to have a lot of trouble trying to hook up your VGA cable to that RS-232 connector they show there.
nebulus @ Jun 4th 2008 8:27AM
Your right and why position something which usually has a bulky cable with a ferrite core so damn close to the lens.... thats madness!
Mike @ Jun 4th 2008 8:55AM
I was thinking that they'd use the serial port for some kind of controller and that the actual vga port is on the back...like a slide advancing clicker...
but then why not just have a 2nd usb jack? >.
Wwhat @ Jun 4th 2008 8:25AM
Design isn't too bad, although putting the connector underneath the lens doesn't seem ideal to me, should be on the side or alternatively the back, but side is best I think.
The Apple @ Jun 4th 2008 8:32AM
"although putting the connector underneath the lens doesn't seem ideal to me"
Looking at the connector, it looks like a COM Port, with an extra pin, mean't to be VGA???
Wwhat @ Jun 5th 2008 8:06AM
You are right, that's an old style 9 pin COM or some such port it seems.
Perhaps it's for an old style wired remote, to fit the resolution :)
*shrug*
aarons12 @ Jun 4th 2008 8:40AM
it's for executive types to carry on an airplane and project movies and powerpoints on the back of the seat in front of him...
Luke @ Jun 4th 2008 9:19AM
Looks like my holepunch
Teetdogs @ Jun 4th 2008 10:02AM
I guess I really dont see the point in palm sized projectors, I can see them being used in cell phones since you already carry that around with you but not as a seperate device, I can appreciate a smaller projector but why a palm sized one with crap specs?

Good to see the new Polaroid cameras lookin' so future fresh...
Oh.
ccox @ Jun 4th 2008 11:15AM
I really don't see any market for this. Too dim and not small enough to give it enough edge. However, somebody may take this idea and make something like it that makes better sense.
It's like people who buy a PMP with a tiny screen and pay an extra $500 for a high resolution tiny screen. What's the point?
Don @ Jun 4th 2008 11:40AM
Hey guys come on now. You have to start somewhere. Plus,( contrast ratio ratings provided by different manufacturers of display devices are not necessarily comparable to each other due to differences in method of measurement, operation, and unstated variables.) From wiki. This thing is a good start. Wouldn't you like to buy a small kick ass projector some day that projects to the whole size of your family room wall and or down to the size of a paper back book?. It is the wave of the future. When you move to a different house you do not have to lug a 50inch screen around either. You will see. In 2 years or less you will be begging for one.
Chumdinger @ Jun 4th 2008 12:33PM
Actually, it looks like a hi-tech George Forman grill.
sean @ Jun 4th 2008 12:52PM
but can it dance...
Maisum @ Jun 4th 2008 12:54PM
It's LED, im sure its going to cost alot
thedesolate1 @ Jun 4th 2008 12:55PM
I cant wait till they cram projectors in cell phones...
Shannin @ Jun 4th 2008 3:39PM
depending on price, this will be perfect for people wanting to try some multi- touch stuff! (despite the low resolution)
Nabi @ Jun 10th 2008 2:58AM
Sorry guys: we put the wrong picture out there. That's a bicycle helmet you've been commenting on,
