Sony gets official with XBR6 / XBR7 / XBR8 HDTV lineup
Aw yeah, those svelte Sony XBRs that were leaked back in mid-April have just been confirmed by Sony, and it's going to be a long, sweaty summer waiting for the whole load to land this fall. Kicking things off is the XBR8 series, headed by the 55-inch KDL-55XBR8 and 46-inch KDL-46XBR8 models, which incorporate the outfit's TRILUMINOS three-color LED backlight technology, 10-bit processing, BRAVIA Engine 2, Motionflow 120Hz and Advanced Contrast Enhancer PRO. The 70-inch KDL-70XBR7 and 40-inch KDL-40XBR7 headline the XBR7 lineup, while the XBR6 features sets range from 32- to 52-inches in size. All the gritty details are waiting below -- if you feel like waiting 'til tomorrow for Sony's glacially slow servers to load, that is.

what will be the prices for the 46" and 55" XBR8 models?

Here's the press release at Gizmodo instead of Sony's site:

I actually saw the 32" xbr6 at circuit city a couple days ago (must have put it out early). It looked much better than the other 32" tvs. The colors were more vibrant and the tv has 120Htz. Pretty expensive though.
Einhanderkiller @ Jun 5th 2008 7:44PM
They're really expensive, but the image quality is amazing.
nDee @ Jun 6th 2008 7:08AM
The design is so sleek, which made my XBR3 so 2007.
Blacksheep @ Jun 5th 2008 5:53PM
I can't wait for a release date and a price, that way I'll just how much I can't afford it and when I won't be able to take one home.
Well, hopefully it will knock down the price of the XBR4/5, maybe I can finally get one cheap-er.
HalfJoey @ Jun 5th 2008 6:00PM
Is it expected that their newer 120Hz processing will no longer make things look like video?
Brian @ Jun 5th 2008 6:49PM
The smaller XBR6 models have been out for some time now, to the poster that thought they put them out early at the store. I am acutally getting my 46inch z series delivered tomorrow.
hybridvigor88 @ Jun 5th 2008 7:33PM
how come it says coming soon when i go to the main page??
Ben @ Jun 5th 2008 7:41PM
Why don't these come out this summer :( The reason I want an HDTV this year is to watch the Beijing 2008 olympics. It'll also allow more competition to further drive down the prices of the new Samsung 6 and 7 series..

Can someone explain just why you would want a light house in your living room?
Dr. Evil @ Jun 5th 2008 11:36PM
To keep ships from crashing into you furniture on foggy days.
DJ @ Jun 5th 2008 9:01PM
Wow, a 70" LCD from Sony? You mean just like the one they announced in September of 2006? The one that shipped in .......?????
Oh that's right, it NEVER shipped! Sony, I still have that blank space on the wall waiting for it, if it EVER comes........
Alex @ Jun 5th 2008 10:13PM
The 70" XBR3 did come out, a couple months back.
It is in stock at SonyStyle's website.

You won't see this kind of TV because:
1. It takes too much space to display
and
2. The chances of an average joe walking into a Best Buy and dropping $33K on a TV are very very small.
Poom @ Jun 6th 2008 2:08AM
I've seen a 70" in Sony Style shops for quite a long time now...
Paulie Walnuts @ Jun 5th 2008 9:59PM
This new Sony XBR looks exactly like the Samsung LNT4671F that was launched back in late 2007.

EKing @ Jun 6th 2008 9:38AM
If by "looks exactly like", you mean black, and a TV then yes. Otherwise, though both are sleek and simple, the bevels and trimmings are quite different. and please specify which xbr you're talking about, because all three look different with their glass edging.
nDee @ Jun 6th 2008 7:07AM
XBR has glass flames for years and I don't see how that is copying.
Daniel @ Jun 5th 2008 11:29PM
so sony will anounce the prices tomorrow?
Huy @ Jun 5th 2008 11:33PM
So much for my XBR4...
dionysus @ Jun 6th 2008 12:36AM
Got my 37XBR6 last week, thru Sony employee purchase program, $1187 including tax and the shipping is free.
SteveHa @ Jun 6th 2008 2:23AM
does anyone know when samsung will update series 6 and 7?
nicholas @ Jun 6th 2008 7:12AM
ahem. ENGADGET. please post the correct information!
the XBR6 and 40in XBR 7 are using the Bravia Engine 2 EX
and the 70in XBR7 and XBR8 are using the Bravia Engine 2 Pro
BIG DIFFERENCE here. the rest of this years lineup is using the Bravia Engine 2, which is very decent, but makes me wonder how good the other iterations are. The first gen Bravia Engine was a lot different from the Bravia Engine Pro
anabouboula @ Jun 6th 2008 7:32AM
Take that Pioneer!
Evan @ Jun 6th 2008 8:01AM
What's with the "ears" sticking out the sides? Do we really need to make a 55" TV an extra 6" wider just for some lame ascetics?
-Dominic @ Jun 6th 2008 8:37AM
I just assumed they were speakers
Sachin @ Jun 6th 2008 11:19PM
I want this.
Air 23 Air Jordans @ Jul 15th 2008 3:35AM
I can't wait to see these in person. The W4100 and Z4100 both look amazing, it's hard to imagine these looking any better, but I'm sure they will!!
