I think I'll just keep plugging it and unplugging it from my PC until it breaks, and say it happened on it's own.

It must work. I bricked my PSP on purpose and got the slim version for free, hopefully Apple is as dumb as GameStop.

The plastic is because metal blocks cell radios. With 3G and GPS, Apple had to make the back all plastic to accommodate that. This is real basic stuff here. didn't you ever notice the black strip on the bottom of the first iPhone? That was plastic.
