I too have had one of these since day one with no issues. It is the best tech purchase I have made in over 10 years and I've bought a lot of stuff. It's function as a file server is a very minimal part of what it can do. It's back up function is the only software on the market with mega easy interface for under $1000.
Ive tried raid solutions and a home built linux server and this this is a god send. I've backed up friends systems and used it to restore test systems with incredible ease. This data corruption bug has been blown out of proportion. It effects a minimal number of programs in a limited number of situations. And now it is fixed.
The 1GB server from HP is cheaper than comparable NAS's and about the cost to build one yourself. It's cheaper that drobo and that doesn't even have gigabit ethernet. But it does much more.
Troll somewhere else please.

chris fredette

Comments on Microsoft issues beta fix, enhancements for Windows Home Server

LOL, Apple must of threatened Engadget about that previous Apple Mold Post so its kinda funny how it's gone.

Matsta

Comments on Microsoft issues beta fix, enhancements for Windows Home Server

I'm so going to get low rated for this, but I swear I read the last sentence like this in my head:

Still, as solid as this release appears, it's still Microsoft Windows, so be careful.

Hellios

Comments on Microsoft issues beta fix, enhancements for Windows Home Server

And it still dominates 93% of the global market, dwarfing all of its competitors.

Hamidxa

Comments on Microsoft issues beta fix, enhancements for Windows Home Server

We're talking about servers here, and Windows is most definitely NOT dominating the market here, thank you very much.

Hellios

Comments on Microsoft issues beta fix, enhancements for Windows Home Server

Helios:

For a couple years now, Windows Servers have been outselling Unix based systems. Zero problems, though I don't point programs to the share on the server to modify things, so I was never at risk for the bug.

I do use it a lot to remote into my PC's securely from anwhere in the world without having to screw around with setting up some sort of VPN on my home network. I also am able to share out pictures and home videos with friends and family who live scattered all over the US.

I've used this to restore my main home PC when I changed drive configs and it went amazingly smooth. I wanted to change to RAID 0, since I have backups now, so I bought a couple of identical drives, configured the BIOS on the PC to stripe them, and booted to the Home Server Restore CD, pointed the O/S for my PC to the new array, and 20 minutes later had everything like it was only a lot faster.

I'm not saying it's perfect, but there is NO way it's as crappy as those who likely have never even seen or touched the O/S claim. It's built on Win2003 Server R2, which is a stable O/S. No it can't join domains, or do the things you want your Linux server to do, but here's a clue - you are not the target audience. The target is the person who never thought about the fact that they have 5 years of music, photos, videos and memories on their server without a secondary copy anywhere. These customers can plug it in, walk through some simple steps and have all PC's in their house backed, not to mention restored without having had formal PC/Server training. These are the customers for this product. Those who do know more about computers, can squeeze even more from the product without having to figure out which distro to use, how to get a GUI on top of a CLI O/S or hack drivers into a box.

Neal

Comments on Microsoft issues beta fix, enhancements for Windows Home Server

Eyy Homes!
