Guitar Hero World Tour's new gear gets previewed
We've already seen plenty of Guitar Hero World Tour's drums, but while we've heard rumblings of a touchpad for the new guitar, this is the first time we've seen it in the flesh. IGN has a preview of all the new gear, and says the strip will be used for fiddling around with notes during sustains, tapping to play notes, and for interfacing with the new music creator. The guitar is also larger than its other toy guitar predecessors. In other news, the drums are pressure sensitive, the mic is pretty plain, and the music creation software is completely off the chain. Unfortunately, you won't be allowed to record vocals for songs, but otherwise you can pretty much build anything you'd want with the software. In even better news, the Wii version of World Tour will share all these features, and while we promised ourselves we wouldn't install two full sets of fake band gear in our living room, we're starting to get some serious cravings here.

I thought the extra sensors were for tapping and hammer-ons.

My living room isn't BIG enough for two awesome fake instrument collections. The temptation is enough already!

Is it compatible with gh3?! it'd better be! gh3 guitar better be compatible with gh4 too
Im holding off on buying another gh3 guitar so i can get a gh4 one
Linkman2004 @ Jun 20th 2008 2:55AM
They state in the preview that Guitar Hero 3 guitars work in 4, so I Imagine it probably works the other way, as well.
Greg @ Jun 19th 2008 11:28PM
I'm sure it will be, pcgecko. The real question is whether it (and the drums) will play nice with Rock Band the way the GH3 guitars do. If it doesn't, I'll go with the old model. They should get cheaper anyhow.
Chris @ Jun 19th 2008 11:53PM
Great......add this to my other 4 guitar hero/rock band controllers! Seriously when are they gonna realize that we care more about the damn game itself than buying another controller with every new game!

They have this one thing, where you pay $60.. and you just get the game.
It's amazing, I know.

MORE PLASTIC INSTRUMENTS FTW!!!!!
RB2 is gonna have some serious competition, and whoever comes out on top this round wins my vote (nd purchase), so far (since no word on RB2) GH:WT has mah vote
Mike @ Jun 20th 2008 1:45AM
Looks nice, but I'm still curious to know what Rock Band 2 will look like, because I don't see much else in the new Guitar Hero other than Activision playing catch-up to Rock Band.
Except for the music creator. That's pretty damn sweet. Except you can't record vocals. That kinda sucks... And there's no way Activision will make any of their instruments interoperable. That also really blows...
Ridgecity @ Jun 20th 2008 3:33AM
Rock band can't really make any big mods to the controllers since they will alienate all those that already bought a ton of stuff.
I was going to buy Rock Band for Wii until they announced this. I still wanna see what happens with any of these huge boxes of plastic. I got a small house to buy both.
SteveJ @ Jun 20th 2008 6:36AM
What about the PS2 version - will it have all the features (aside from downloadable content)? Specifically will it have the music creation stuff?
frank @ Jun 20th 2008 9:46AM
Will my current Wii guitar still work for this if I just get the game without new instruments?
Mark @ Jun 20th 2008 10:48AM
According to the article, yes, your current guitar should work, you just wont have the new features of the touch sensitive part.
Mike @ Jun 20th 2008 12:07PM
Got the Wii version on GH & I was thinking of looking @ RB when it came out but now I'm waiting to see when RB comes out in the fall. I find that I dont play much in the summer anyway so waiting till fall isn't a prob. Plus the GH guitar wouldn't be compatible with the RB set anyway so in the event of a tie GH will win for me.
