Remote controlled bots do battle at RoboGames 2008

Not like we haven't seen hordes of humanoids fight to the death (or malfunction, whichever comes first) before, but this agile duo is really something. Seriously, just watch those feet scamper about and try not to smile. We'll bet you lose it when the big fella drops that massive left hook (but fails to connect). Video after the cut.

sweet...now there needs to be sensors on them so they can tell how much "damage" is taken and then know who wins.

I have been reading this site for many years now but never seemed to get around for posting comments; I suppose i always want to read the next story!
One thing that does shine out is the fear some have for robots of the future enslaving humans; let’s just think about this story............. for those of use that build robots most of us want to see them battle another robot. I think when future robots look back through human history they will see we built them to do battle, however through some twisted fate for humans they can put use to battle each other or them!

That was amazing! The robots move surprisingly human-like and very fluidly. I love the way they 'flip back' after falling...

Also that ground pound at 0:27 was genius. That must be FUN, making and programming these little androids.

I thought the short robot, lifited the red one, then pounded it on the ground. There was a definite initial "rise". I don't think that was a take down...

I only saw jabs; no hooks, but still really impressive. I'll just try not to imagine these little guys scaled up.

the big one in the vid is from Dr Gui who has wone several robo-one comps over the years.

I still debate whether we should call a remote-controlled device a "robot" at all. If it's not capable of managing its own movements and making choices based on indirect input, is it a robot, or just a toy?

I wonder why the floor they are "fighting" on seems to be so slippery. Its almost as if they are on ice.
