Samsung's Snapdragon super-MID just days away?
While we haven't found an official press release on the subject, AVING is reporting a June 2008 retail release of a Samsung Snapdragon MID. This according to a Qualcomm official. It's unclear to what extent Sammy's device will make good on Snapdragon's list of "supported" features like 12 megapixel camera, GPS, HD video playback, WiFi, Bluetooth, all day battery life, digital broadcast television (MediaFLO, DVB-H, and/or USDB-T) and dual-mode EV-DO Rev. B and UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA riding atop a 1GHz processor and Qualcomm's 600MHz always-on DSP. All we've got is this picture of an engineering prototype (actually based on Snapdragon this time) on display right now at the World IT Show.

This is obviously a photoshopped mock-up of the iPhone.

I like your style, kid.
kccboy2004 @ Jun 19th 2008 4:08AM

Is this an iphone killer ? If this is gonna be running Android, they have my money.
For me this is a device that is not confused as to what it is :
1. A Mobile Internet Device : A device that is suited to accessing the internet
2. A Phone
3. An entertainment device, able to play good res video at a good size.
4. A really capable camera & video recorder
I think that anyone thinking of buying an iPhone will think twice. Perhaps if you
want something as small as an iPhone, then maybe just buy a simple cheap phone.
Phoenix @ Jun 19th 2008 11:53AM
The iPhone isn't "small", it's maybe THIN but the large screen makes it useless for people wanting "small"

Hey...that's a picture of a Qualcomm SURF board. I worked with these before...good to see them around on Engadget.
A.C.E.R. @ Jun 19th 2008 5:46AM
Sure it'll have all day power...in standby.

Samsung might announce their Snapdragon enabled MID by the end of June, but there is no chance that it will be on store shelves. The earliest devices based on the chip arent going to be out until the 4th quarter...and even that might slip into the 1st quarter of next year.
Personally, I just hope they announce something. The battery life and form factor for MID's based on Snapdragon should blow away Intel based devices.

well it sou ds unveleivable, if they could some how manage to fit this into a easily pocketable size, then i think they have a major winner, oh and the price needs to be sensible

With Windows Mobile 7 in development, and Windows Mobile 6 out, why is this running Windows Mobile 5? I may be incorrect, but that gui looks blatantly familiar and very reminiscent of my old HP Ipaq, also running Windows Mobile 5.
Isn't this thing powerful enough to handle a newer OS?
Christian Walters @ Jun 19th 2008 3:41PM
that IS Windows Mobile 6 brother, more than likely 6.1. You can tell because of the sort-of "curve" to the top and bottom bars, as well as it is running Windows Media Player Mobile 10.4, which is exclusive to WinMo 6 and up(unless you download the WMPM10 skin, yes yes I know). But the bars at the top and the bottom give it away, as does its square [X] button in the top right hand corner, WinMo 5 had the older rounded (OK) button.
