This probably won't be ruining anybody's day, but if you were hoping to buy a
Lenovo laptop with 3000 scrawled somewhere on it, you're pretty much out of luck. Lenovo has apparently killed off the entirety of its budget-friendly 3000 lineups, both laptop and desktop. The Y Series 3000 laptops are now gone in place Y710 and 7510 Series
IdeaPads, and the fugly old 3000 K100 desktops gone, with only K210 IdeaCentre desktops available in their place. Not earth-shattering, but the IdeaPad and IdeaCentre brands are already off to a strong start, with much better design than the 3000 series, but similarly low prices. And besides, we suppose they needed all those excess 0's for the Olympics. You know, for the rings. No? You always hate our jokes. Die in a fire.
[Thanks, Ian]
"0's"?
*sigh*.
B&O used -000 for their model number in mid 80s
Now it's just BeoCentre 2
Easier to remember
securnd
you mean thurd.
You mean furth?
'Cause why build cheap ones when you could build expensive ones!
i dont agree with this theory.
Cheap stuff always get more sales than expensive stuff. take a look at wal-mart: low margin was compensated by large sale volume.
i think the execution was wrong. Cheap laptops should be sold at big box stores like bestbuy. there is no doubt this laptop will beat any of hp's laptp.
jd: sorry I was being sarcastic. Me being an eeepc owner knows that cheap, affordable stuff is awesome.
lol@die in a fire.
If they're being replaced by better units, then good. Let it die.
I love your jokes!
Actually, the former X60 series, which looks like it will be the x200 series, is only about $1100, which is very good considering you get a top quality notebook.
Flounder?
May I have ten thousand marbles, please?
It took them a while to sort this out...
Hooray my story!
nice picture!
Lol that isn't my picture, I was just checking something about my new ThinkPad T61 on their website and when I went to the Notebook section the 3000 Series was missing.
Dead, dead, dead, someday we'll all be dead......
Epuc Faul!!!
"Bring out your dead! Bring out your dead!"
Love your jokes ... nice change for a boring work day ... i love engadget !!!!!
Good, it was really rather redundant. It's good to see that Lenovo are putting more emphasis on the IBM PC heritage that they bought, the 'pad lines (Thinkpad, Ideapad) are better anyways (yes I know Ideapad is a Lenovo invention but it follows the Thinkpad design philosophy in terms of reliability etc. if from a consumer style standpoint rather than the business one).
I was beginning to wonder if 3000 -> IdeaPad was ever supposed to be a transition or not. The Y410 was sold as a 3000 series, and it had the orange buttons and Veriface that's standard IdeaPad fare, but came months before the others that had the full IdeaPad "themes" (bottom hinge, stylized lids) fleshed out. Makes doling out recommendations easier, for sure.
I really liked the Joke when U said "You always hate our jokes. Die in a fire."
Good one!
Keep rocking!
I actually just got a bunch of the 3000 N200 notebooks recently cause they were being sold off for so cheap, and they have the same type of warranty as the regular Thinkpads. (In my part of the world, Thinkpad warranty is handled by IBM and not Lenovo.)
I just sold my 3000 N100 for a Macbook. CHEA!!!!
It ruined my day. At the PC repair shop I work in we sell 3-4 of the 3000 N200s every day. Lets just hope our stockists have a good supply.

I think you meant Y510 there.
I like Lenovo's 3000 series (typing on one, in fact).
*Side-mounted headphone/mic ports. Check.
*USB x1 on left side, USBx3 on right side. 4 in total. Check.
*Better feeling (and looking) keyboard than the majority of the competition. Check.
*No irregularly-shaped keys on keyboard. A pet hate of mine. Check.
*Page Up and Page Down keys next to arrow keys (a personal fave). Check.
*Minimal tackyness, silver-painted plastic and embellishments compared to competition (tho certainly far from ideal but IMO far better than nearly all competing models): check.
So I'm sorry to see the 3000 series go. Tho the IdeaPads share some of the same features, some are gone, like the 4 USB ports.
To me there was no point spending more. Laptops really really start to face diminishing returns beyond this point.
Regarding the low-end Y510 IdeaPads:

I like the 'rough' lid look. Beefed up the sound apparently, and more multimedia/touchy focus. Frameless monitor. VeriFace. Both Zzzz but par for the course in the copycat everybody-doing-the-same notebook market. On the 17inch models we have the ever-tacky lit blue halo and lit Lenovo logo. Oh yes. Just what I've always wanted. LOL. Good reason to avoid those, then. Tho they do give you the option for two hard drives there. Nice for a plug-bound desktop replacement.
