Customized Voodoo Envy 133: a sin worthy of death

Anyone else feeling the rapid palpitations of desire is their cold, pawne-shopped hearts? You're looking at a pre-production, Scuderia-red Voodoo Envy 133 with "Rahul Sood's Racing Edition" engraved underneath. Mind you, this level of customization isn't just limited to Voodoo/HP execs. Both the Omen desktop and Envy 133 will launch with "extensive personalization options" for even the lowest of the lowly cubical monkeys.

MastrCake @ Jun 25th 2008 3:36AM
I love this laptop... and Voodoo.
What's up with the Ferrari Challenge Stradale paint job, though?

you know how sometimes the balls at the golf range have stripes on them to help you with slice or whatever? maybe ferrari track cars are the same idea to help with understeer...
Sean @ Jun 25th 2008 3:45AM
damn you beat me to it.
MastrCake @ Jun 25th 2008 3:55AM
I just got off of Voodoo's website (under the community tab) and the whole Challenge Stradale and Ferrari Red theme was planned. It was planned so well, in fact, that the shade of red used on this beauty is actually the same exact color used on red Enzo Ferrari's!!! I wonder how many $100s that costs...
Macca @ Jun 25th 2008 3:41AM
beautiful
Sean @ Jun 25th 2008 3:43AM
that's a Ferrari 360 CS green/red stripe.
Mush @ Jun 25th 2008 3:44AM
Want! But mostly we're paying for the design not the specs if we buy...
kccboy2004 @ Jun 25th 2008 4:11AM
This is DISGUSTINGly nice. I have never lusted so much over a laptop before. I really really want an Envy. So many things to buy, so few power cokets to plug then in !
I really love that idea of the power slab with the ethernet hooked in. Wow - astounding !!
"Dear Mr Sood, I just poor immigrant worker, I many mouths to feed, have pity, give to me pre-production laptop, make very happy me and my family. I no work, I sure if you give this to me my life turn round, I be happy. I feed my children and no beat my wife.
yours faithfully, mercado enrique hernandez vermicilli gonzales."
Tom Robertson @ Jun 25th 2008 4:11AM
Yeah it does look sexy - but I don't think it's going to perform that well in benchmarks. You would expect something with such a racing design or whatever to be a pretty good contender.
kccboy2004 @ Jun 25th 2008 4:26AM
@Tom,
i really don't know how you can say that. (I am not being nasty here - or not trying anyway)...
Specs:
1.6GHz (SP7500) or 1.8GHz (SP7700), with 4MB L2 Cache and 800MHz FSB
- consumes 20w of power
- has "instant on" booting into linux, for immediate access to skype and other instantly wantable thingies
- has that amazing ethernet integrated-cum-wireless router-power slab
- .74 inches thin.
What would you be comparing it against ??
I can hardly contain myself. Never been this excited about an inanimate object, well not since that condom split on me.
Lareeth @ Jun 25th 2008 4:58AM
I thought the stripes make it go faster?
Tom Robertson @ Jun 25th 2008 5:56AM
True, I understand what you're saying - and having a Linux instant on is a great feature. How much is it going to cost?
Reader @ Jun 25th 2008 7:01AM
I think it's price competitively with the Air, something like 2.2k.
Zorque @ Jun 25th 2008 4:15AM
What's with all these companies making racing-inspired computers/flash drives/pregnancy tests. Don't get me wrong, they're always really nice equipment, but they're way overpriced and it doesn't seem like laptops and cars have a lot to do with each other.
kccboy2004 @ Jun 25th 2008 4:44AM
this is really a mis-leading article. The case is, I think a no cost extra. They are interchangeable. It also looks great in Plain White/ Cream and Black Carbon.
BigBloke @ Jun 25th 2008 6:36AM
@Zorque
You obviously don't watch Formula 1.
There you can see the odd laptop around doing things like ordering pizza for the guys, or making small adjustments to the temp sensors in the control system.
Nothing important like...

Move over Apple, there's a new design team in town, and they're at least two years ahead of anything you've got in the works.
Will H. @ Jun 25th 2008 6:45AM
I'm sorry, I have to agree. I get that Apple does the cool, understated, curvy design well, but the colour on this one really gives it some personality and really enhances the overall appearance.
iHoppipolla @ Jun 25th 2008 8:41AM
Aren't we talking about two completely different design strategies?
Apple champions the minimalistic & smooth-edged (even if the smooth edges are sharp enough to cut through cake) theme while Voodoo takes the bolder & striking approach. That is not to say that the two do not have similar characteristics- Voodoo does not exactly miss out completely on the minimalism idea and Apple's adherence to understated design demonstrates boldness in its own right.
I, and anyone familiar with the company, do not predict Apple offering ferrari-themed products or the like and Voodoo will do well to continue on its trend of bolder, brighter products.
Apple's venture to boldness may come later this year when they possibly may release a... drumroll... (RED) iPhone. Other than that, call me a commie, but I would rather go with the less individualistic approach and have a slim, sexy (SSD) Air that matches others than a laptop that I'm afraid may leave me in a cloud of exhaust chasing after some pretty young Porsche-themed netbook.
Mike C @ Jun 25th 2008 10:36AM
ugh, I'm so non conformist I got an apple. All those other PC's are soo similar to each other.
There was a time when apple used to offer more colored products than anybody.
P.S.
Sheep.
happy_penguin @ Jun 25th 2008 12:00PM
Actually I see a very Apple like shape to the design of this notebook. Check how the lid wraps around the back with the ports to the side and the thin profile. I think they've done a very good job of adapting and advancing the design. This is one sexy looking machine.
Col. Newman @ Jun 25th 2008 5:59AM
Me want one

"Move over Apple, there's a new design team in town, and they're at least two years ahead of anything you've got in the works."
oh please. Voodoo isn't that far ahead in terms of industrial design comparing to what Apple has done. The design of the Envy 133 actually follows closely with that of the MacBook/Macbook Pro. Yes, the material is different and the coloring is different, but it's got the same clean lines, identical hinge, the same large trackpad found on the MacBook Air. Remember, the MacBook Pro design stems from the aluminum PowerBook G4, which was released 5 years ago. The design is so perfect, that it's still in used today and adopted by various PC manufacturers to achieve that perfect notebook computer look. remember what laptop computers looked like back in 2003? nothing close to what Apple had achieved. The fact that PC manufacturers are finally catching up to Apple industrial design after 5 years says alot about how far ahead Apple really was compared to everybody else.
Keith M @ Jun 25th 2008 5:11PM
I had to pull my macbook pro out of the case to be sure that it wasn't a macbook painted Ferarri red as a spoof. Looks pretty similar to me.
ShadowKain @ Jun 25th 2008 8:16AM
Sign me up...but I want mine with neato anti - apple stickers >:)
Rick @ Jun 25th 2008 8:21AM
Yeah and an 80GB, 4200 RPM HD!
Rick @ Jun 25th 2008 8:34AM
This design says "I'm rich so steal me, kidnap my owner, and hold him for ransom".
Marcela @ Jun 25th 2008 9:34AM
Agreed...
Besides I don't really like it... I know everyone is lusting after one but not really my thing this red and the stripes....hmmm...no...not my thing at all
If I'm going to be kidnapped for something better be for something really really worth it.
But that is just me

I really really hope the new macbooks are this sexy.
Blue05R1 @ Jun 26th 2008 12:08AM
Who cares about the colour, you can get them any color you want. This is Rahul's personal laptop, he got it painted the way he wanted it. If you don't like the colour choose another
Michael @ Aug 5th 2008 7:21PM
What's up with the funny name and weird picture at the back?
