They created a PC, at a time when Apple was busy suing Apple II clone makers,  that was designed to use standard parts, and it was openly copied by Compaq and many other companies. I'm not saying it should be forgotten, but with your attitude we might as well condemn the entire human race. And also watching Gates try to berate hard working researchers to work faster, for his own glory, is pretty unappetizing. And let's not forget those billions were gained through illegal monopolistic and anti competitive practises. It wasn't the GUI, or the iPod, or the iPhone, obviously it wasn't any computer hardware... what's left? Microsoft, on the other hand, has ripped Apple off so often you can predict what they'll do next by watching what Apple releases first.<br><br>I don't like how MS runs their business, because they don't innovate. They buy out other people's ideas or just steal them outright. These days a lot of that is Ballmer's fault though, and I still have a lot of respect for Gates because of what he does with his foundation. He deserves everybody's respect for that. He could literally do anything he wants with that much money, and he uses it to help people. From small things, to big things such as :<br><br>- Windows Media Center : FrontRow or Apple TV<br>- Windows Desktop Search (shown in PDC '03) : Finder<br>- Windows Live/Exchange : MobileMe<br>- WinMo : iPhone<br>- IE : Safari<br>- Shadow Copy : Time Machine<br>- Zune WiFi : iPod Touch's WiFi<br>- Microsoft Office : iWork<br>- Zune's big screen : iPod Touch's bigger screen<br>- SharvedView or Vista's Meeting Space : iChat Theater <br>- Vista's Live image preview : QuickLook<br>- Outlook : Apple Mail<br>- Messenger : iChat<br>- Active Desktop : Widgets<br><br>That's just some stuff at the top of my head.
