Or maybe this could be true, and therfore being PS3's worst nightmare... that people bought the system as a Blu-Ray player, but they don't buy any blu-rays (Rent) or buy any games to help sony recoup their 3.3 Billion Lost in the PS3.

Never underestimate the stupidity of typical consumers. It's a perfectly reasonable & fair reflection of reality.
Especially given the fact that Sony (at least initially) boxed PS3s with a composite cable (incapable of supplying a high def signal).

I just ordered a Roku Netfilx player. Most people are not consumed to the nth degree as a home cinema enthusiast would claim to be.
They don't care about - and certainly have little interest in paying out the large sums necessary for - 120Hz, 60"+ HD TVs or the relatively expensive audio kit needed to experience the new audio standards.

For a huge number of people TV is just TV, not an obsession.

You've got this all wrong.

I like high def.

I really do.

I also enjoy the new high def audio.

I just find the idea (which some clearly want to delude themselves abot here) that that minority enthusiasm will ever carry across in a big way to the majority (the true a/v mass-market) is utterly laughable.

It is equally ludicrous when we get served up absurd statements like

Particularly when the highest def we can experience of all (and have all - disease and accidents aside - been experiencing since birth) is plain old human eyesight.

I'm not being harsh, I'm just questioning some of the more ridiculous statements from some of our posters as they get (so obviously) carruied away on the hype.

......and btw you have no idea what kit I have or do not have - but the comment about the Samsung was a bit of a give-away I guess ;)
Sure it has it's flaws (still) but it's about as good as LCD gets and at as nice a price as I was prepared to put into the tech right now.

Only when I got a 1080p set did I make the player move permanent. I have to say that I didn't expect it but when I have guests over now they take the time to marvel at my set up like you said.
