Modular recorder concept gets down with homegrown sounds
Now here's an instrument you wouldn't have minded practicing as a tot. Alle Meine Klänge's AMK is a modular recorder (you know, those plastic flute wannabes) that pack an array of individual blocks which can hold any sound you like. Simply transfer homegrown beats / notes / tunes / etc. over to each block, connect 'em up and you've got yourself a instrument of cacophonic delight. 'Tis a shame it's still a concept -- Fisher-Price, you seeing this?

I say just give the child a real instrument, or take 'em to instrument classes... It's more fun than pretend instruments any day.

Anything Engadget suggests that I blow, I tend to do the opposite... Just an instinct [Not talking about the phone]
None-the-less, its a great idea

By the way, cacophonic delight? Is that "Cac" pronounced with a 'a' sounding like 'aw'? Because no buddy likes Cawk-cophonic delights here at Engadget, assuming the majority here are males
[Apologies for the double post, but thoughts always come up after I post]

So, it's basically just like a real recorder. Except electronic. With loadable sounds. And extensible. And without the flute-type noise. Or the finger holes. Or the mouthpiece.
Actually, it's nothing like a real recorder, is it?

i fail to see the resemblance also.

Great idea.....but......4 year olds are gonna make this the most annoying toy ever due to loading it full of clips that dont flow together at all.

I expected to see "coming soon to the wii" somewhere in the post, or "rockband controller." But the "Fisher-Price" satiated. Thanks.

This looks like something that would be fun to bend, then paint black.

What a bunch of curmudgeons. To the person who says give them "a real instrument," I say sure, give them a real car, a real playmate instead of dolls, a real house and so forth. They're just toys for godssake! What a bunch of Henny-Pennies... the Empire is falling, the Empire is falling! All over a silly toy. Why not give them a wooden stick, some rocks, feed them some gruel and turn them out onto the streets of Dickens' London? Lighten UP. It's a new age; roll with it.
