Pioneer to launch Blu-ray recorders by year's end

Blu-ray recorders have been on the scene for a while now, but now that the format war's over, it looks like more companies are starting to commit to BD-R devices -- like Pioneer, which announced today that it'll have a Blu-ray recorder out in Japan by the end of the year. The company didn't say what model it would be or what price point it was aiming for, but the tech is being jointly developed with Sharp, so hopefully it's have a family resemblance to units like the 1TB AQUOS BD-HDW20 in everything but the $2,611 pricetag.

Let's talk about the feasibility of a BD-R arriving in the US.

Not going to happen. At least not with the capability of recording anything remotely useful in HD through cable or satellite.

We'll be lucky if copy protection doesn't cripple OTA HD broadcasts.

yeah, cuz theres always that one scene or movie that you downloaded that you'll never be able to find again.
its like have a folder of funny pictures of video clips...such as the "rv salesman outtakes" or the "qvc knives" guy. those are a lot easier to find now, but porn, funny pics and videos are really priceless
