MobileMe now live, ready for you
Hello MobileMe, goodbye .Mac (and good riddance). Apple's synchronization and web application solution for your Macs, PCs, iPod touch or iPhone is now live. Push eMail, push contacts, and push calendar and a new suite of web applications are now yours for the taking. You know, after you hand over $99 for the first year or $149 for a one-year family subscription.
P.S. Things are loading slowly at the moment as the service comes up.
Update: As noted in the comments, the site is now down for most people.
Update 2: It's coming up again but it's still flaky as hell. We've managed to get to our calendar, contacts, and settings but Mail is still a no, no.
Update 3: And... it's down again. Nice going.
[Thanks, Tim]

Sweet...

How irritating if a site blocks you because you have an 'unsupported' browser. Who cares? If the site is not working propertly I'll get another browser, but not it simply denies me access to this site. How am I now supposed to get hyped about an Apple product if I can't read what it's all about?

BuddyBoy @ Jul 10th 2008 7:20AM
I got that message.. but i was crazy and click the continue button anyway and got right in
FuzzyCat @ Jul 10th 2008 7:22AM
If you're using firefox grab the UserAgent switcher and add this
Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/1A543a Safari/419.3
to the user agents list (as an iPhone)
doink @ Jul 10th 2008 7:16AM
10 mins and mail is still loading.......
Chad @ Jul 10th 2008 4:22PM
Probably uses the same technology as engadget comment system... sometimes takes like 10 mins for my comment to show up.
vince baskerville @ Jul 10th 2008 7:24AM

wako @ Jul 10th 2008 7:22AM
20GB my ass... says i have 5! >=[
mobileme @ Jul 10th 2008 7:25AM
On the Mobile Me website it says that it can take up to 10 days to show that you have 20GB.
steven Haskayne @ Jul 10th 2008 7:23AM
Its now down, still says i have 5gb and 5gb, must be buckling under pressure...
Chad @ Jul 10th 2008 4:30PM
I wonder if it is an Exchange server cluster? I mean, the mail, contacts and calendar are all features that Exchange offer... much faster to bring this to market by licensing an existing product. Not to mention, their tag line is "Exchange for the rest of us." Either that or RIM is secretly launching a DOS attack to make the service look like it can't support real business users... brilliant, but dirty (if true).
larrylevine @ Jul 10th 2008 7:25AM
Seems to be down again. :(
Chad @ Jul 10th 2008 4:20PM
You don't have to @ when you reply directly to the comment associated with the reply button... we assume that's who you're talking to unless otherwise noted, especially when you're the first responder. You can't be replying to anyone else in that thread.
Ben J-Strike @ Jul 10th 2008 7:23AM
i was just logged in, but then it logged me out and now i cant even access it anymore, it just takes me back to apple.com.
it looks like they've taken the site back down again.
marc @ Jul 10th 2008 7:25AM

m-arx @ Jul 10th 2008 7:26AM

eli8527 @ Jul 10th 2008 7:26AM

andythursby @ Jul 10th 2008 7:29AM
that link just ends up redirecting, its still down :(
eli8527 @ Jul 10th 2008 7:39AM
it looks like it only works if its in your cache or maybe cookies. It still works for me even after I keep refresing.
Paul @ Jul 10th 2008 8:40AM
Works fine for me, too!
Paul @ Jul 10th 2008 8:45AM
Ahhh, Correction!
The PAGE works fine, could also activate my new account but now it´s not possible to login....
David @ Jul 10th 2008 7:28AM
Still not working, I almost got the calender to work though
m-arx @ Jul 10th 2008 7:29AM
how does the signup work? do i have to buy it through apple store?
jonsimmons @ Jul 10th 2008 7:37AM
Curse you, international DNS! For me (U.K.), www.me.com is still redirecting to www.apple.com/mobileme. Even if I use the above link to get to the login page, it's still redirecting me when i log in.
Ben J-Strike @ Jul 10th 2008 7:31AM
and now it asking me to do a software update
James @ Jul 10th 2008 7:36AM
Actually it is down now. Maybe some issues with the conversion?
Chris Booth @ Jul 10th 2008 7:43AM
In the UK too! Was pushed the software update which installed no problem. Direct link brings up login page but redirects to spash page when you try to log in.
Philster @ Jul 10th 2008 7:44AM
Hmmm... me.com just pushed me back to apple.com... ?
eli8527 @ Jul 10th 2008 7:44AM

All I get is the mobileme info page. The service doesn't appear to be up here yet (US). Or perhaps they took it back down. Meanwhile, mac.com is "temporarily unavailable".
Mediapirate @ Jul 10th 2008 10:48AM
Wow, Epic fail on Apple's part, kinda reminds me of Firefox 3.0 download fiasco.
mam693 @ Jul 10th 2008 8:06AM
From .Mac Support:
"The maintenance window has been extended. We are working hard to make MobileMe available as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience."
http://www.apple.com/support/dotmac/
maddope @ Jul 10th 2008 8:08AM
yeaahhh works for me via www.mac.com (in the Netherlands).
yohooo
Ryan Worrell @ Jul 10th 2008 8:13AM
Me.com takes me to apple mobileme features page and mac.com still has the error message up.
tony valentine @ Jul 10th 2008 8:11AM
This service is temporarily unavailable.
We are currently performing scheduled maintenance.
Normal service will be restored soon.
Ken @ Jul 10th 2008 8:15AM
I did rather use free alternatives like Airset or Google multiple services.
Josh @ Jul 10th 2008 8:54AM
try this website:
https://auth.apple.com/authenticate
Scott K. @ Jul 10th 2008 8:51AM
That script "Me" is giving me flashbacks of Windows Me, and we can remember how well *that* one did.
Besides: 'Me,' at least its sound, has been well-ingrained and identified into the Nintendo culture
OfflinePK @ Jul 10th 2008 8:57AM
I thought everything Apple makes was supposed to work perfectly?
Guess not...
Anand T @ Jul 10th 2008 9:02AM
The link Josh provided "https://auth.apple.com/authenticate", worked for me in Mozilla browser, and showed up with Mobileme logon screen, and then it redirected to "http://www.apple.com/mobileme/".
Mike @ Jul 10th 2008 9:14AM
its back up now
John Moffett @ Jul 10th 2008 9:15AM
...and yet, it's not. I had it up for about 50 seconds, then it died when I tried changing pages.
mam693 @ Jul 10th 2008 9:41AM
It isn't for me.
