Aww shucks! I already downloaded a free copy. Sorry Stevie!!
Anton @ Jul 12th 2008 1:19AM
Demonoid FTW!
brandon @ Jul 12th 2008 12:54AM
Got it from a torrent link in older posts, been running it for a few hours without any problems!
nicksa7xx @ Jul 12th 2008 3:07AM
hah me to!
its running swimmingly
hiko36 @ Jul 12th 2008 4:52AM
If you want this Firmware but don't want to feed the Apple Monster, check The Bay. I just downloaded it and its working amazingly. Got my self 5 apps already. It's ridiculous we (ipod touch) owners have to pay for this. Support the dev teams but not Apple... Download the fw and then buy the apps legit...
Gabriel @ Jul 12th 2008 6:45AM
LOL me to!! xD although I miss my wikipedia app I had on my old jailbroken one :(
Anders Nielsen @ Jul 12th 2008 6:51AM
I just figured out, that if you put your ipod in DFU mode (Hold Sleep & Home button until it turns off, then when apple logo shows, keep holding Home button), plug it into your computer and then press Restore in iTunes, you get it all free! :D
.. thats how i did it.
CUBSWILLWIN @ Jul 12th 2008 9:28AM
Hey, I got a copy of the leaked version from the apple site. Can anyone tell me if that one works. I'm afraid of brickage.
Darren @ Jul 12th 2008 9:48AM
If it's build 5A347 it'll work fine. I installed it over a Jailbreak-1.1.4 version without any problems.
brandon @ Jul 12th 2008 12:55AM
Now Steve can't go buy his $10-a-roll toilet paper :( too bad!!!
tumnasgt @ Jul 12th 2008 1:02AM
It's more likely he uses the competition's mp3 players as toilet paper.
brandon @ Jul 12th 2008 1:09AM
Engadget's comment system is buggy as hell
Khris @ Jul 12th 2008 1:19AM
And making ANOTHER post to draw attention to it only makes you look like a tool. Bravo!
Bert Lagaisse @ Jul 12th 2008 11:33AM
Actually I think he uses the new iPhone 3G to wipe his ass. That's why only 300 devices made it to Brussels on the release event.
(I think I just heard 5 fanboys fall down on the floor with a heart attack ;-) )
Conor Kirkpatrick @ Jul 12th 2008 12:56AM
I agree, I will not be purchasing this. I can't believe they are charging for this.
Also, watch how later iPod Touch buyers get this stuff for free! Yeesh.
I am downloading this through Tomato Torrent as we speak... (As I comment?)
Bunson @ Jul 12th 2008 1:43AM
I congratulate you on your public admittance to software piracy.
roole @ Jul 12th 2008 1:45AM
You do mean '.....admission to...'
conorkirk @ Jul 12th 2008 1:47AM
I do what I can ;)
DWells55 @ Jul 12th 2008 2:13AM
Yeah man, as much as I love Apple, there's really no defending the fact that they're charging for a software update they were developing anyways. Especially when you consider newer models will ship with it - that's just disrespectful to early adopters.
Justin Nolan @ Jul 12th 2008 2:43AM
Tomato Torrent blows. Try Vuze (Azureus)... with the CLASSIC INTERFACE, of course. The classic interface turns off all the bloat and turns it into the lean mean torrent client Azureus use to be by default. Its infinitely more powerful than Tomato Torrent, and much faster at downloads for some reason.
Anthony Mazel @ Jul 12th 2008 2:47AM
uTorrent > all.
That Fender Strat Guy @ Jul 12th 2008 4:42AM
As much as I love Apple, I did download the leaked 2.0 touch firmware for free - not that it was particularly hard to find with all the chaos of yesterday.
I already forked over £9.99 for the January upgrade - there's no friggin chance I'm going to repeat this every few months... just to have the update free in the following pack.
What additionally killed my altruism and motivated my piracy was the MobileMe fiasco - the down time really fudged with my work as I was trying to retrieve files from idisk. Thanks a bunch for the screwup - hey how about next time try dovetailing the services over instead of using the same servers...? This shit/fan interaction actually cost me more than £10, but who do I go to complain about that? Oh, the freakin' brick wall? Right-o...
Anyway, the 2.0 build works fine and I won't be buying the pack unless it messes up.

We, at the Apple Piracy Division have already grabbed your IP address and we'll be sending out a couple of our enforcers to your home shortly. Trying to evade us will not be an option. For not paying the nominal fee of $10, you will be forced to pay $10,000 and/or serve a two-year jail sentence depending on whether we find other incriminating illegal software on your computer's harddrive. Thank you in advance for your cooperation (or else).
Jeff @ Jul 12th 2008 9:01AM
I know it sucks, but this has to do with accounting. Because iPhone sales are accounted for gradually over a 2-year period, they do not need to charge for the software upgrades. Same with Apple TV. They spread the development cost out. Because iPod sales are accounted for all at once, they can't spread the development cost out and must charge for new features.
TheSpleen @ Jul 12th 2008 11:17AM
As long as you don't mind me stealing your stuff when I decide it's not fair that you won't just give it to me.
Trevor @ Jul 12th 2008 4:38PM
Heres one thought of why they are charging for this, iphone users have to pay monthly bill thats easily more than $10. Ipod touch users have to a one time bill of $10. Kinda seems fair to me.
Conor Kirk @ Jul 12th 2008 10:38PM
I made a post about this on my blog
http://conorkirkpatrick.com/
Chip @ Jul 12th 2008 12:59AM
Just did the update, took about 20 min to download and update the firmware, now its re syncing my content. There was a lot of waiting while the little circle spun at the bottom of the ipod screen, I got nervous but it went fine. It will be interesting to see if all the settings were backed up correctly.
Aaron @ Jul 12th 2008 12:57AM
That took forever... whatevr
Matthew B @ Jul 12th 2008 12:59AM
yaa I got it from a torrent too, to bad you had to suck apple
could have made more money and saved a lot of people from being pissed and frustrated
Tom @ Jul 14th 2008 9:12AM
Don't worry... the frustration, anger, and general feeling of being screwed is overwritten with each new firmware/hardware release. ;)
Harrison @ Jul 12th 2008 9:33AM
I'm still trying to deciede if this is worth leaving my Jailbroken 1.1.4...
Bobby Collins @ Jul 12th 2008 1:01AM
I have been on and off here for last 16 hours.. now finally... installing as i type on my 16 ipod.. hope it was worth the wait..
Jarrett @ Jul 12th 2008 1:02AM
Ridiculous. Why should I purchase an update that the "better" half of users gets for free?
If someone mentions SOX, I will scream.
roole @ Jul 12th 2008 1:13AM
S-Ox.
El Taco @ Jul 12th 2008 1:24AM
I watched a red sox game the other day
rtdunham @ Jul 12th 2008 11:28AM
the Rays are ahead of the Sox.
BrokenMonkey @ Jul 13th 2008 2:39PM
Go Rays!
MaInE @ Jul 12th 2008 1:02AM
Got the update from itunes. had to pay my 9.95 but its ok. Now restoring music and videos to my ipod which is probably going to take forever and im tired from work. but i wont fall asleep on this.
kevin @ Jul 12th 2008 1:02AM
apparently the $10.29 in my account is an insufficient amount to complete this purchase. which is rediculous considering this should be free anyways.
Eric @ Jul 12th 2008 1:51AM
You likely have to pay sales tax. Some states require it, some don't.
I know New York doesn't charge sales tax on music or video downloads, but it does on software.
Florida doesn't charge sales tax for any downloads.
mglipford @ Jul 12th 2008 1:04AM
Mine is in the process of applying the update right now. Everything seems to be going alright, though it seems to be taking a while.
Martas @ Jul 12th 2008 1:09AM
Have you lost your music in iPod after installing 2.0?
TomB @ Jul 12th 2008 1:12AM
The update wipes it clean but backs up a list of what you had synced.
fini @ Jul 12th 2008 1:03AM
I couldn't wait, sorry Apple you lost the $10 I was willing to fork over. Next time get your act together. Better yet, next time don't pick at&t for your phone, I'm sure it was there servers that took down yours.
PeterF @ Jul 12th 2008 2:05AM
AT&T servers were fine, Apple's went down.
Nick @ Jul 12th 2008 8:32AM
Yep I was more than willing to pay the $10, but Apple couldn't get their act together in time so I torrented it. My iPod's been working like a charm since.
Big John @ Jul 12th 2008 1:03AM
Finally, iPod touch users can cleanly get their 2.0 software update without waiting forever for iTunes to connect.
At least, that's what people earlier were complaining about when this wasn't available.
As a (now former) iPod touch owner, good on the people that won't be paying for this upgrade. The January software update was ridiculous enough of a price tag and this is just double-hitting the people that bought the iPod touch at launch. It's a bit ridiculous.
Boywithhair @ Jul 12th 2008 1:18AM
DONT BUY IT. ITS THE SAME FIRMWARE FROM EARLIER TODAY THAT WAS FUCKING FREE. I JUST BOUGHT IT FUCKING USELESS APPLE.
Aaron Sawatzky @ Jul 12th 2008 1:05AM
iTunes won't let me buy the update with credit, it's telling me I need a credit card or else I can't download
