Remember that
PlayStation-branded SOCOM Bluetooth headset we told you about a while ago? Not surprisingly, it's for real, and we spotted it in Sony's booth alongside
SOCOM Confrontation here at E3. It looks to be a relatively nice unit, a bit bigger than your standard Bluetooth headset intended for phones, and the USB charger it comes with is clearly intended to hang out with your PS3. Sony points out that the headset sports a giant mute button for your in-game arguments with significant others, and battery time is promised to be "exceptional." They wouldn't tell us exactly
how exceptional, but we'll believe them for now. Finally, they did confirm that you'll be able to pair this with your cellphone in case you want to show off your SOCOM love while away from your living room.

For those in the know, shouldn't any cheapo Bluetooth cellphone airpiece work?
CharlieX @ Jul 16th 2008 4:24PM
Yup.

Why use a generic one when you can spot, touch, and fondle the one that has playstation written on it.
SOCOMRAIDER @ Jul 16th 2008 5:48PM
Yes, most generic Bluetooth headsets will work. However, there are still a number of headsets that have minor to major problems with the PS3. Like having to pair it up with PS3 every time you turn it on. Or simply it wont work.
The benefit of this headset is that it is guaranteed to work flawlessly with the PS3. It will also have a mute button, which is a must have for online gaming. Plus it will be integrated better, meaning that, it will give you power level readings on screen like the Dualshock 3s/Sixaxis.

LOL I just had to comment on this one. hahaha
Meccalangelo @ Jul 16th 2008 5:05PM
Now if only there was something on it that actually said "SOCOM"
phinnvr6 @ Jul 16th 2008 5:10PM
Well I think the point is that people don't look it as a "SOCOM" headset but a Sony official headset to be used with anything. For now a cheapo $10 bluetooth headset works fine anyway but this looks pretty nice and will be really sweet to get with Socom.

Should have asked:
"If exceptional could be measured in hours, how exceptional is it?"
yoctotech @ Jul 16th 2008 8:07PM
Is it expensive?

you know, i could post the following comment on any story and it would still be relevant (and funny):
i was trying to see this on my new iphone but it wouldn't load.
we are such tools of Steve Jobbs and his stupid iphone.
and while i'm at it, i am not a microsoft fanboy. i hate microsoft fanboys. and apple fanboys. there is no rite answer to the microsoft vs apple. different ppl have different needs. If you are just doing email and word processing then you need windows. if you are doing graphic design and stuff, then you need apple. apples are wayyy overpriced for what most people use them for. and ipods work fine on windows. if you have itunes. did i mention what tools we are of steve jobbs?
