60GB Xbox 360 now shipping from Amazon

A few 60GB Xbox 360s may have already slipped out to retailers (as evidenced above), but if you're not interested in running around trying to track one down, you can now snag one from Amazon and rest assured that it'll ship out post haste. If you've been following this SKU's every move, you'll notice that's a few days ahead of the August 4th date that Amazon once listed, and the August 6th date that Circuit City still does -- but hey, we're not complaining.

Update: Microsoft's Major Nelson has now confirmed that there is no official street date for the new 60GB model, "they'll just appear in the retail channels." Is this what happens when Bill G is out of the picture? Next thing we know Microsoft will start showing up late for parties and asking to sleep on our couch.

You don't get it. The gamecube launched as the leat expensive console out there. Later on dropping even lower. In the US it was $199.95 at launch And towards the last few years it dropped to $99 and it was still at the bottom.

What he is saying is that hype makes the sales. It has always been true for pretty much every generation. Hype and established history changes the dynamics. The comments about it selling so well because of its price is nonesense.

Your "So what" is hindered by the fact that you will need this extra disk space once the xbox allows the copying of in-game data to the hard drive. Even that 60 will fill up pretty quick for the hardcore gamers...

It WASN'T a price drop, it was a clearance sale, to make room for the 60 GB as having 5 current SKUs would be ridiculous (Arcade, 20, 60, Halo Special, Elite), and it would completely eradicate the point of having the Arcade SKU.

I agree - I so want to get into the "Next-Generation" systems .... but at $349 and $399 respectively -- before taxes and any games -- it's still a bit pricey for me.

The problem with these systems, is that if you don't jump on the XBox 360 soon, it's going to be too late. It was released in late '05 -- almost three years in Nov. Ugh .... what is up with no having a $250 price point or hell even $200 -- seems a lot more reasonable.

Even at $350, the Playstation 3 is the better value --- their game line up will be changing in the late of 2008 and early 2009.

There's a youtube video up now of a guy with a 60gb from target and his power brick says 175W. However, I believe at one revision they were using same rated power bricks with new mobos. There's also reports of different packaging with different weights. Right now, it looks like no jasper, so we'll just wait and see.

Personally, I took the plunge for the 20gb at 299, and will likely replace it when the 360 is EOL, hopefully both chips are 45nm by then (although valhalla is supposed to be dual 65nm integrated die of the two).

Personally they should just lower the system price and sell the hard drives for cost. Then you could get what ever one is good for you and upgrade with out being raped. Then as hard drive prices drop larger ones will have the same price tag. Bigger drive=buy more content.

That would hurt the retailer not Microsoft, Microsoft would still make the same amount of money. Now if your talking about Microsoft selling it to the retailer for cost and the Retailer making about a 5 to 10% profit, that would make sense. Other then that, the retailer already sells it pretty close to cost. Same with computers.

*sighs* MS should just give up on this and allow external hard drives to be used or a caddy that allows someone to buy an off the shelf hard drive and slap it into the system. Format the thing in a way that is encrypted, and have the drive "tied" to the system some how. Its so stupid to force people to choose when people's preferences are going to vary beyond 0 and 60GB.
