Firstly, I'm not your average stupid user. I've been using PCs since 1978, and professionally since 1987. I've used every MS operating system since DOS 3.31

I have a screaming system: Dual core, 256MB dual channel video card, 4GB RAM, dual 7200 RPM SATA 300 drives.

I turned UAC off, but now that you mention it, don't you think that having to turn off one of the highly touted features of an OS to get it to work properly is a bit of a problem? This is the problem with you Microsoft fanboys (or linux fanboys for that matter) All you have to do is... Yeah? All Microsoft has to do is build a decent fucking operating system.

Vista sucks primarily because it is so fucking slow, specifically copying files. Copying a 16GB file on disk (not network) takes 2.5 fucking hours. This is a task I do a coupple of times a week (copying VPC base images) I have SP1 and all patches installed. UAC, defender, etc are off.

To put that in perspective I can copy 60+ GB of data from my slow ass XP box to a fucking iPod in just about an hour.

Vista crashes about as much as XP ever did.

Vista is constantly churning the disk for no good reason.

The spinning blue ring is much in evidence.

Could I spend 2 days hacking the registry to fix some of this? I don't know. Maybe. Why should I have to?

I like XP. It's not perfect, but I like it fine. But frankly, I don't want to spend a whole fucking day reinstalling XP on a new system because Dell, or HP or Sony wouldn't load XP on it for me. I have work I need to do with the computer, not on it.

Back when I had more leisure time, I enjoyed screwing around with the OS. I just don't have that much time, (and no, the 20 to 30 minutes a day I spend on the Web for entertainment doesn't count, this is my "stay sane" time)

Microsoft fucked up big time with Vista. They know it, the media knows it. IT manages sure as hell know it. There is a reason why most businesses are not moving to Vista and can still get XP licenses. All I want is to be able to get the same. Microsoft should make XP widely available until Windows 7 ships. Hell they can charge what they charge for Vista Ultimate, I don't give a fuck.
