Two of these losers were arrested here in Seattle. They surrounded a guys car in an intersection and started beating on his hood. He then tried to get away by backing up, bumped into and ran over a bike behind him (cyclist not hurt). He then got out of his car (why, I dunno, to see if anyone was hurt?) then the cyclist knob jockeys beat the crap out of him.

Once I heard of this car driver that plowed into someone, killing him. He then fled the scene.

Fellow Seattlite here. Why are you making up this rediculous story about the July 25th incident? Buy most witness accounts the driver was the aggressor, he's the one that started moving his car into a crowd of cyclists, and they responded in kind (for what it's worth, when someone is assualting you with a deadly weapon, "in kind" response is usaully pretty harsh). No question that there was a mob mentality that took over, but you're kind of asking for it when you do something as stupid as what this hotheaded fratboy did.

Yes, I am in law enforcement, and even though lots of my colleagues are pricks, it does not make them distrustful. Believe it or not, 95% or higher of law enforcement really care about their job, and those who they are sworn to protect. You hear about the rotten apples, and assume it's half.

While I'm sure the majority of law enforcement personnel are benevolent and well intentioned like you say, I think it's the _culture_ of apathy and other kinds of groupthink, all too common in human nature in general, that become endemic. Here in San Francisco, the SFPD have notoriety as a good old boys network more interested in self-aggrandizement than public service.

If you put the average pedestrian in place of the officer, would pedestrian shove that bicyclist like that? The point is, it's hard trusting people these days, and it's harder still to trust law enforcement when we see something like this, an unnecessary excessive use of force.

Simply asking "why" when commanded to "come here" got me a police radio to the face and a night in jail in one instance. Mind you, I was committing no crime other than standing on the sidewalk in the city and looking up for a long time (Ironically, I was standing there looking up because I was watching a crime take place - which the cops never noticed through the whole ordeal of beating the crap out of me...)

This is only one example. In my teen years I have many of these. I was no angel, and would happen to be in the wrong places because of that - but I was abused by police. In fact, the one time I called them to my home for help, I, again spent the night in jail while the person who was running around with a gun was let free.

So, as an adult - a law abiding citizen - I'm quite literally afraid of the police. I will not call them in practically any situation. When I see a cop I feel more fear than I do when I see a criminal.
