Basically, Memorex is making HDD enclosures and sticking someone else's drives inside them. So whereas you know what you're getting when you buy an external HDD from WD or Seagate, you have no idea what kind of drive is inside these things.

So the real question is, who makes the drives that are in those enclosures? I like the WD Passport's design, clean and simple. Plus you can get the 320 GB passport on Ebay for about $100. I don't even know why Engadget bothers to mention these things. Its not like they are SSD based, or have some advanced Raid setup, or allow you to store 1TB in your pocket.

What I want to see is 1TB with an enclosure similar to the WD passport, support for USB 2.0, firewire, e-sata, with a built in USB retractable cable.
