Epson's P-7000 and P-6000 photo viewers include speed and screen improvements
If you're the type of person looking to drop $600 to $800 on a photo viewer, you've probably got some pretty specialized needs for the thing, and Epson aims to please. A followup to its P-3000 and P-5000 photo viewers, the new P-6000 and P-7000 from Epson sport 640 x 480 4-inch LCDs, which have been newly enhanced with "Photo Fine Premia" tech to handle 94% of the Adobe RGB color space. The 6000 and 7000 models sport 80GB and 160GB of storage, respectively, and download shots up to 35% faster than before. The interface naturally allows you to browse through, sort and zoom in on your beautimous photography, supporting both JPEG and RAW files, and there's even a bit of PMP functionality for when you're bored of all that. They should be out in September for the aforementioned $600 and $800 price points.

Buy a Love with the Wind for less money as use that as a photo viewer
awlllwa @ Aug 6th 2008 2:14PM
Ah, but the wind doesn't have a CF slot. Why wont they put a CF slot on a netbook?
blizz419 @ Aug 6th 2008 2:11PM
why is there no comment box in the post about vista tv pack
phanbouy fan fan @ Aug 6th 2008 2:15PM
it's because they don't want phanbouy to comment there, Luigi-with-marijuana-leaf-on-hat.
he posts too much so i'm totally gonna sit around and wait till he posts and then post a faux-affirmative reply to not-so-secretly contradict him! i can be completely wrong, but as long as i use a sarcastic tone i'm _always_ right!

Looks like an iPhone!
Frun @ Aug 6th 2008 2:37PM
For 800 bucks there better be a lens on the other side of that thing.
Dustin Frazier @ Aug 6th 2008 3:05PM
Reduce the price by $200. Add touch screen with the ability to stylus edit photos on the fly.
bandigolo @ Aug 6th 2008 3:27PM
Ummm, hello? 160GB of storage? I think that warrants the $800 price tag considering the "similar" items on the market.
bandigolo @ Aug 6th 2008 3:33PM
*disclaimer - if it works really, really well for its intended purpose. I'd also like to know how effective this thing is as a PMP (i'm not expecting much, though).
Meema @ Aug 13th 2008 11:00PM
As with the p5000, it supports DivX, Xvid, MP4, and a lot of other formats. It's one of the best. It may be bulky but it's storage is not flash-based. Screen is 4-color instead of the 3-color RGB. Green is the most difficult color to render so Epson created a screen that uses two shades of green to display the green more accurately.
I could go on and on but I would suggest you check the p5000 specifications.
Jimmijam @ Aug 6th 2008 4:11PM
I have the old p-3000... Love it except you can't zoom in on RAW files, only JPEG.
Cassini @ Aug 7th 2008 9:22AM
From what I read, you can zoom in on RAW with these new models.

Can somebody explain me why this brick is so expensive. For the half of the price ( 600 ) I can buy a Ipod classic with a camera connector, and in the same time will have more functions.
ky @ Aug 6th 2008 8:15PM
I heard the camera connector on ipod is slow in transfer, plus it drain the camera's battery too, also it doesnot support raw.
konshuss @ Aug 27th 2008 9:02AM
it really is a shame when such a nice looking device comes out and you find it does ONE thing. no excuse to limit any computing device to such a narrow scope.. and for that price, yeesh. with the video and audio capabilities being an afterthought, this reeks of a company that had big pmp dreams but failed.
xxlyyk @ Sep 11th 2008 11:18AM
Yeeah, it's really expensive, but it's a totally different market. This is a (semi) professional photography tool,an easy way to store a backup of your pictures if you're on the read, and the best there is. If you compare it to the Nikon coolwalker or the canon thingy it's not that expensive.
Also it's probably at least in part designed to be used in the field, like maybe when you are on the back of a truck shooting wildlife in Africa or something or when you're wearing gloves. So it has nice big buttons, etc. It's not meant to be a sleek pmp for on the plane or train.
As to the Ipod solution. I don't think it can show raw pictures (or nef or dng or whatever raw format you use) which is what you shoot when you spend that much money on photography equipment. Maybe there are plugins, but this thing (just guessing) probably does a lot of the processing/rendering in hardware instead of software. Making it probably faster in rendering a 5-10 meg raw file.
