Elmo Live ready for pre-order by dutiful parents
Although it hits retail on Thursday, you might want to get your pre-order in now given the way these things tend to go scarce near the Xmas rush. We're talking about Elmo Live of course, the singing, dancing, and story telling robot with wobbly red limbs and interactive sensors scattered around the monster's face and ticklish belly. Available now for about $65 pre-tax at all the usual on-line shops for our tiniest consumers. We've dropped in the video after the break as a reminder of things to come.

lol @ picture
PS. what am I doing up so late...or early...?
who? @ Aug 11th 2008 4:25AM
Exactly! (to the late/early thing)
I'm tired, but I can't sleep... It's weird because I took a sleeping pill like five hours ago, and I'm still wide awake. Weird.
Flashpoint @ Aug 11th 2008 4:29AM
Damn thing looks like a suicide bomber.
All it needs is a bandolier with semtex.
mymaclife @ Aug 11th 2008 5:09AM
Looks more like Bush to me!
Erik @ Aug 11th 2008 3:37AM
"...the way these things tend to go scare during the Xmas rush."
Yes, they do scare me the way they sell during the Xmas rush. And when kids don't care about these ones next year, they'll lead the robot insurrection.
Zac Grose @ Aug 11th 2008 4:03AM
Scare == Scarce. Both are terribly horrific things to go through as a parent.
tha-don @ Aug 11th 2008 3:39AM
how much do you think these will go for on ebay in december???
Jon @ Aug 11th 2008 10:00AM
I will buy 10 and find out.
David @ Aug 11th 2008 3:45AM
is it tethered to something or is it free like that tickle me version?
Joe @ Aug 11th 2008 3:47AM
See this is the kind of device I've been waiting for...not an iPhone!
dreamscape86 @ Aug 11th 2008 4:05AM
Can it play Doom?
Because man... that would be creepy.
MastrCake @ Aug 11th 2008 4:09AM
ROFL +1 for you my friend!
Nice way to turn that joke around.
Michael LaFramboise @ Aug 11th 2008 4:09AM
Robot elmos are only the first step towards doom...
Colin Potter @ Aug 11th 2008 4:17AM
Can it cause a crisis?
MastrCake @ Aug 11th 2008 4:08AM
"Available now for about $65 pre-tax at all the usual on-line shops for out tiniest consumers"
Well, since my kids are out...
lettcco @ Aug 11th 2008 4:29AM
no thanks. I will wait till they come out with Elmo die.
frank @ Aug 11th 2008 4:48AM
Is the video doctored? The audio sounds a bit too good for a $65 toy.
A.C.E.R. @ Aug 11th 2008 4:48AM
In before overlords.
Adderz @ Aug 11th 2008 5:10AM
Elmo knows where you live...
Dr Zoidberg @ Aug 11th 2008 5:24AM
Is it wrong that I find it seriously awesome and that I want one really badly?
mickeymoo @ Aug 11th 2008 5:14AM
Can Elmo tell us the story of how he can move more naturally (and seemingly quietly) for $65 than Pleo can for $300 ?
(what's with the wire harness coming out the back? Demo too long for a set of D cells or is that in case he were to flip out during the demo and attack the press corps?)
Nick @ Aug 11th 2008 7:50AM
I don't normally do this but I'm going to take the gamble and order three and pray that come December these things are in demand. Hopefully I can make some money off them.
Graham @ Aug 11th 2008 7:58AM
This picture reminds me of the Elmo that was making death threats.

"Although it hits retail on Thursday"
Are we sure about this? The 3 links all say "10/14/08".
Andy TGD @ Aug 11th 2008 8:53AM
Sorry guys, just one question: why does it need that cord shoved up it's ass?
Rant @ Aug 11th 2008 9:35AM
That video is from quite a few months ago, so I'd assume that this was a prototype that required that cord thing. Can't imagine that is required in the final version.
dschwab @ Aug 11th 2008 9:37AM
BTW, you're about 2 months premature on the release. It's due out on October 14, not this Thursday August 14.
CosterMonger @ Aug 11th 2008 10:41AM
The Elmo's are going to be cause of the great AI war of 2014
welcome your robot oppressors with tickles!
RikF @ Aug 11th 2008 11:16AM
There's only one thing you need to know about this toy...
"Jazz Hands!"
Free ps3 @ Aug 11th 2008 1:05PM
i need one of these, i love elmo. I had to buy the tickle me elmo when i was 17!
Nikropht @ Aug 11th 2008 1:22PM
All hail to the red furry overlords...
DaCheez @ Aug 11th 2008 1:34PM
I, for one, welcome our new ticklish, singing, dancing, and story-telling robot overlords...
TurboFool @ Aug 11th 2008 6:29PM
For those asking about the cable coming out of his back, this video is from February. He wasn't done yet. They hadn't optimized his power usage yet or cut down chipset down to something small enough to fit inside. That all changes for the final release.
Nelson @ Aug 11th 2008 10:17PM
I can't wait to get the chucky doll version, but will it laugh when I tickle it...?
