Vongo dies, very few notice
Vongo gave it a solid go there for a while, but a supported device list that totaled seven (and was missing a certain white whale) combined with lukewarm support and lackluster marketing always spelled doom for the scrappy video-on-demand service, and it looks like Starz has gone ahead and pulled the plug. If you're one of the, uh, dozens who were paying the $10/mo fee, you can still use the service until September 30th, but after that there'll be nothing left -- literally, since all your Vongo content will be deleted. Yeah, that's a fun way to make customers check out the new, seemingly-identical Starz Play service. Anyone still intrigued by this kind of subscription video model? We're pretty over it.

I liked it for the few months I used it. But a library that only has Starz titles is a little limited.
I agree...the service worked well. I too subscribed for a few months until I just wasn't interested in any more of their limit selection.
What's Vongo?
I liked it, and would go back to it, but the videos never seemed to play correctly. I think the execution could have been better, and if there were more movies and HD content, I would pay another $10 to try it out (again).
I complained that the video player was crappy to them when I un-subscribed and they informed me that it was just the Window Media player. I didn't argue with that because it was the interface they wrote on top of WMP that was horrible. I simply replied that the player stinks. I guess they didn't care about customer feedback at all.
with better software this could have went somewhere....but the delivery platform was total junk. I think Vista support was basically non existent.
that's where "netflix + xbox 360 = success" comes in.
No more crapware from Vongo on my new computers. Good riddance, bastards.
Heh. Hehehe. BWAHAHAHAHHAHA! *cough* *couhg* AHAHA BWHWHWHHHHWAHHAAAA!
I almost had an orgasm when I heard they were finally dying.
Crapware? They were one step beyond crapware. I saw DOZENS of laptops that had Vongo pre-installed that would slow the system down and could never complete the installation of Vongo.
It was harder to remove in some cases than malware. I literally had to create images for some laptops that contained all the drivers/software to do a complete wipe of the OS to get rid of Vongo.
If there is a middle tier between crapware and malware it is called Vongo.
Who?!?!
Interested in Vongo's particular brand of subscription model? No.
Interested in paying a monthly fee to be able to stream high-quality movies on demand? Absolutely.
If/when the major studios finally decide to give up and sign on with something like Netflix watch it now, I'll be the first to pay $10/month for something like that. But, so long as the services are hampered by poor selection and DRM that requires Windows, nobody's going to get anywhere.
iPod doesn't support Windows Media DRM, Apple still not open to providers outside iTunes. News at 11.

Wow, way to think ahead. There are always these types of failures early in a new business model, and the technology to support this one is not really there yet. As higher bandwidth spreads, this type of video distribution will ultimately succeed.
Vongo was one of the most amazing companies I have ever seen and will probably ever see.
It spent it's life caring for others,
It never put itself before others.
It would often go out of it's way to reach those who were in need.
It was also often a counselor when the times called for it.
I knew I could come to it no matter what the reason or circumstance.
I loved vongo with all my heart and will truly miss it.
What's vongo?
I thought the whole product it was a scam haha... guess not
It never worked. Ever.
Wow and I was thinking about this as an alternative phone system for a business i am starting up. Well glad I had decided against it.
You're a fucking moron.
Vonage != Vongo
when i first read the headline, i thought it said "vonage dies".
Huh? What has Vongo go to do with movies? They're an internet phone company. Or maybe maybe that was Zingo, Fango, Dongo, Wongo, Pongo, Shlongo, Tongo, Rongo, Longo, Jongo, or was it Zongo?
Either way they deserved to go out of business for naming their company based on the smallest domain name they could get.
well then you'll love my site.
http://tingtangwallawallabingbang.com*
It streams chipmunks music, episodes, and movies.
*formerly Vongo.
@lol
Damn, I was very diappointed to find out that there was no site at tingtangwallawallabingbang.com.
I love the model of flat fee, unlimited on demand movies. However, as others said, the movie choice was limited, and after watching all the movies and not having enough new content each month I canceled. It worked great in Vista Media Center, my kids loved it. Outside of media center the interface sucked, but I thought it was a great VMC app. I installed the Verizon version just to look, and yep, same movies from when I canceled 4 months ago, with nothing great new.
vongo...
hmmm...
nope, doesn't ring a bell
i used it off and on over the years its been out. it was pretty good, tho the software was pretty crappy (slow). the vista support was a little better with the integration it had wind media center. if the library wasnt so limited and had more compatible devices, it proly would have did a lot better. i was hoping for zune support sumday, hahah, rite...
