More pictures of Dell's Mini Inspiron surface
Dell's Inspiron 910 can't stay hidden, apparently -- check out these new, higher-res shots of the 8.9-inch netbook in the wild. Nothing spectacularly new here -- and we'd still like to see some locked-down specs on this thing -- but ooh, shiny. Check the power adapter after the break.

All I want to know is HOW MUCH!?
Gimme gimme!
Information Central @ Aug 20th 2008 4:44AM
Yeah, because glossy screens aren't the dumbest regression in computing since... its inception.
But hey, Apple can take a lesson here: Even this dinky computer sports a real Delete key and a right button!
Patriks7 @ Aug 20th 2008 6:54AM
hmm interesting point
i turned Mac about 8 months ago and i dont miss the right button one bit
and also OS X is made in a way that u dont need a delete button
so whats ur point?
if ur missing the right button in Windows, get an external mouse
if ur missing the delete button in Windows, get an external keyboard
Mac's arent made for Windows..
Khris @ Aug 20th 2008 8:42AM
@ Information Central
Of course it's got a right mouse button and delete key, it's a Windows keyboard you douche! Why must idiots like you always turn everything into a Windows vs Mac debate?
Tim @ Aug 20th 2008 7:45PM
@ information central - the key for the "quotation marks?" being next to the alt knocks it down a notch for me.
linuxamp @ Aug 19th 2008 9:34PM
Nice small adapter. Too bad the prongs don't fold in.
EmmaJ @ Aug 19th 2008 9:34PM
Lovely just lovely...do we really have to wait til Friday?????????????
Me want now! and yes...HOW much!
JohnTitor @ Aug 19th 2008 9:35PM
wtf, you call that a power supply, I call that a phone charger
looks good though, I just wish it could be separated like a regular laptop ac adapter so it could fit in a power strip
ingus @ Aug 19th 2008 9:36PM
i'm sure Dell will be glad to sell you the 'power strip adapter' :)
strategy people, strategy...
linuxamp @ Aug 19th 2008 9:38PM
Just get one of those really short extension cables.
Ben @ Aug 19th 2008 10:10PM
Then get an extension. Those types of cables take up too much space - kind of goes against the netbook size advantage.
SNP @ Aug 19th 2008 10:11PM
If your powerstrip plugs are vertically lined, that kinda adapter shouldn't be a problem.
Adam @ Aug 19th 2008 11:19PM
Well if you look at the positioning of the prongs. It's made to fit into a vertical power strip fine.
Greg @ Aug 19th 2008 9:35PM
Shiny screen... OH NO !!!!!!!!
Wii60 @ Aug 19th 2008 10:19PM
Dear Every Laptop Manufacturer out there,
Glossy screens suck, in all but dark conditions they are practically unreadable. We hate them, please make them go away.
Thanks,
Me
nDee @ Aug 19th 2008 11:40PM
Maybe there will be a $30 option for having non glossy one
ethana2 @ Aug 19th 2008 11:56PM
My inspiron 1420n has a glossy screen..
Hard as heck to clean.
Luckily I keep my surroundings nice and dark :)
icepop4who @ Aug 20th 2008 12:54AM
the eee pc 901 has a matte screen... too matte if you ask me. my matte sony LCD looks way better than my eee pc yet still has no reflections. the eee pc screen has a bit of noise/blurriness to the picture, due to the overly dull surface.
joeyboy @ Aug 20th 2008 4:05AM
I think the stupidity of the glossy screens is not the summit of this markting driven evolution to make gadgets unusable except for promo photos:
Making the whole case, palm rest, upper casing etc. ALL glossy, that's downright idotic. Friends of mine have a Samsung with a glossy upper side case and they keep the protective foil from the factory still attached at all times so it doesnt get scratched...yeah classy, that looks so much better than having a matte finish without finger prints, scratches and a ducttape to protect it. I pray this glossy kidstoy style will end soon...
Joe @ Aug 19th 2008 9:36PM
Now why can't my 901's power adapter be as tiny as that?
pieboy @ Aug 19th 2008 9:37PM
jesus, that's a small power adapter. the brick for my ihome alarm clock is at least three times the size of that
gabe @ Aug 19th 2008 9:45PM
i can't wait for the dell mark-up but then i get to use the 50% coupon!!!!!
deyanimay @ Aug 19th 2008 10:04PM
Share the love.
kris @ Aug 19th 2008 9:48PM
I hope they are planning on price-leading, because damn if that isn't one of the worst iterations of a "netbook" so far. I'd much rather have an HP 2133 that has a DECENT keyboard. shoehorn a 10" screen into that same form factor, put an Atom 1.6, 2GB Ram. I'd buy it right now. This thing looks like crap in comparison.
wootman @ Aug 20th 2008 12:51AM
wat
The Weakonomist @ Aug 19th 2008 9:49PM
The power adapter just sealed the deal for me. I'm on this like white on rice!
Cedrik @ Aug 19th 2008 9:58PM
am I stupid, or i don't see anything wrong with the SHIFT key ?
Stephen @ Aug 20th 2008 12:41AM
Um, it's small? Just like on the HP DV9000.
I would love to have something lie this to take to school. Problem is though, i also need a new gaming computer right now so i'm just getting a gaming laptop. :) It goes to school, and it plays games. That new Gateway notebook is the one for me.
Mike Cerm @ Aug 19th 2008 9:49PM
Noooo!!! I've been waiting for this thing forever, only to find out that they, too, put the right SHIFT key in the wrong place!
Why, Dell? Acer and HP managed to do it right, why can't you?
pyrotech @ Aug 19th 2008 10:12PM
Add the Wind to that list.
bartoron @ Aug 19th 2008 10:45PM
People use the right Shift key?
RikF @ Aug 19th 2008 11:26PM
People who know how to type do.
Gunn @ Aug 19th 2008 11:29PM
No. I think we can get rid of all the right Alt, Ctrl and Shift.
Dan Halen @ Aug 20th 2008 12:21AM
"People who know how to type do."
Yeah, right. Old school typists. So... almost nobody.
RikF @ Aug 20th 2008 12:45AM
By old school I assume you mean touch typists? Has 'hunt-and-peck' become the norm these days?
Pierre @ Aug 20th 2008 1:12AM
WHO CARES ABOUT THE SHIFT KEY
reese @ Aug 20th 2008 1:41AM
in relation to where the P, L, and M keys are on a normal keyboard, the shift is actually in the correct position... so if you are touch typing, it's where you want it. It should only confuse you (for maybe a week) if you look at the keys.
Dan Halen @ Aug 20th 2008 10:23AM
I can type very - VERY - quickly. I don't think I've ever used the right shift. And I don't think I've ever SEEN anybody quick on the keyboard use it except for the 56 year old secretary where I work. Who really isn't that quick.
waterwagen @ Aug 20th 2008 12:23PM
Much more importantly, the left CTRL key is in the right place - the corner. Too many notebook manufacturers shift it in and replace it with the function key. Hate that.
elefant @ Aug 20th 2008 7:07PM
Hah! I was just talking about this to someone the other day. Is it weird NEVER using the right shift key? Always the left, and if I have to type a capital a/q/z I use my fourth finger.
bitti @ Aug 22nd 2008 7:34PM
That's so true! I always hit the courser up key when trying to type on a eee 901. But I think reese has a point, I scaled a picture of the 901 keyboard to and lay it over the Dell 910 one: http://img396.imageshack.us/img396/4347/910vs901le9.jpg As one can see, the shift key is noticeable more right, in relation to the J. So this might be a decisive difference.
The practice experience has to show, but just in case there's still xmodmap to the rescue...
But I like the idea of getting rid of sporadic used keys, kinda reminds me of the happy hacking keyboard (http://www.charvolant.org/~doug/xkb/html/img9.png).
bitti @ May 20th 2009 6:07PM
Sorry, of course I mean noticable more *left*.
linusk01 @ Aug 19th 2008 9:53PM
charger is pretty sweet. i wish i wasnt so anti piano-black finish...guess i'll wait for 12-inch elitebook and see how that goes...
Ricochet @ Aug 19th 2008 9:54PM
It would look nicer if the screen were enlarged out to the larger line etched around the inside of the bezel. As it is, that kind of looks as though it's there so a larger screen could be fitted to the same chassis in future - just need to move the webcam up above it and get those pesky speakers out of the way below the current screen.
Agent42 @ Aug 20th 2008 2:49AM
and where have we seen THAT phenomenon before?
It's been going on since the first EEE PC 701. Its part of the netbook culture I guess.
Cal @ Aug 19th 2008 10:13PM
Looks quite good, shame they had to stick big white splodges on almost half the keys, couldn't they be a bit more subtle about the function button effect on that key?
Antigravityhero @ Aug 19th 2008 10:16PM
Analog VGA port? What the hell is Dell thinking? Why not an HDMI or DisplayPort connector? Analog VGA is dead, done, kaput.
Joshua Walters @ Aug 19th 2008 10:16PM
I want to have its babies.
Dan Halen @ Aug 19th 2008 10:39PM
A lot - nearly all that I've used - of business minded projectors use only VGA. Especially Dell's (everything from the 1100 to the 2300 to the 1800).
Mental Issues @ Aug 19th 2008 10:55PM
VGA lives on in our hearts and memories. We'll never forget the good times we had together.
