DXG-595V HD camcorder does 1080p for 200 bones
We've seriously stopped trying to understand what differentiates one DXG camcorder from the next. Every release reads something like "blah, blah, 1080p," followed by a price that's simply too good to be true. The DXG-595V claims to capture 1080p (imagine that!) video onto your SDHC card for a mere $200, and the ability to snag stills / connect to your SDTV via composite or S-Video is thrown in for free. Thanks, DXG -- can't wait for you to slap a new model number on some leftover inventory and treat us again next month.

将会给复活节
meilon @ Aug 20th 2008 6:25AM
Google said you wrote "Will give Easter" - what do you mean?
Besides, it still looks like a HD camcorder, not those things Aiptek produces...
redbuta @ Aug 20th 2008 6:26AM
Translation:
For the Thanksgiving.
redbuta @ Aug 20th 2008 6:29AM
I think he meant to say 感恩节...
nDee @ Aug 20th 2008 6:49AM
It's not even proper in Chinese(grammatically)
What is that?
And I am quite sure Thanks Giving does nothing like Easter.
white_ultras @ Aug 20th 2008 6:33AM
1080p cameras cost about $6k or more, it is pretty impossible to record full hd on consumer cameras
due to bandwidth and storage limitations, thats just typo or something, that cam is 480p or maybe 720p thats for sure
AKBlade13 @ Aug 20th 2008 7:00AM
Or it can be as cruddy as their camera line up and even though it will have 1080p, you won't have time to use it before it either drains your baterry or completely malfunctions.

Actually this is a very decent camera for it's price.
It does 1080p (with the 1440 trick, but note that this is a common practice... There are $700 cameras that do the same trick) and 720p60

It's not too good to be true, it's a decent camera that does what it promises to, fills your expectations (as long as you keep the price in mind, of course)

Seriously, go with the Aiptek ActionHD. It does the same video quality and also has a real flash for stills. But the main difference is it has Component out so you can view HD videos on your HDTV. Same price, I got mine a Wal-Mart and it's my video cam to lug around with my Rebel XTi. It takes good video for only $199
DarkLight @ Aug 21st 2008 12:42AM
Dude, this and the ActionHD are the same camera. It's the same chipset, a little different firmware (it's almost the same).... And this has a real flash too. It's got both flash and LED
However, this one is physically seriously superior. It doesn't feel cheap in your hands, like the ActionHD. And it looks much better.
Also the shutter is a pretty nice feature you get...
D1PHAM @ Aug 21st 2008 8:23PM
I bought both the DXG-595V and Action HD. The DXG-595V is much better than the Action HD. The recording bitrates are higher in all modes and it has EIS. The recording chip is different than the one used in the Aiptek models. Also, audio is much much better and not to mention 5 X optical zoom which is pretty smooth.

the review looks like its a great deal for $200. i saw the sample footage, and its cool for "1080p" but the colors are washed and the whites and blacks look like they get crushed. anyways looks like a great deal for $200 and from the review the build looks solid also
Mitochondria @ Aug 20th 2008 9:11AM
This sounds cool, but I want a camera that has good audio too. I like to record instruments and it irritates me just as much the the audio sucks.
I wonder if their is a good cheep camera that either has a good built-in mic or you can attach an external one.
TopaZ @ Aug 20th 2008 9:37AM
Again, we have a poster that doesn't seem to appreciate the market segment cameras like this (and Aiptek) represent. Looking forward to reading that (hopefully balanced) review!

Looks to be already on sale at Walmart for only $179 at that. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=9914700&sourceid=1500000000000003142050&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=9914700

Great deal, but out of stock online and not available in stores :(

You know whats great about these tiny HD cams? DUAL shooting! I have the Sanyo HD1 I Glued a "hot shoe" mount to the side of it so I can "mount" it to my SLR. now I can shoot Stills (which I prefer) and Video which many people enjoy at the same time.
THey are also great "disposable" camera. The HD1 is a $700 camera. I do not have a sack big enough to get me to load that onto my rocket (especially as you will see in a moment)
I shoved an HDV178 into a rocket. WOW the absolutely most stunning onboard rocketry video I have ever shot for $99 !! I crashed one (its dead) and Burned up another with a CATO (it still works)
for $700 I would be crushed. For $99. WORTH IT for even a single video flight :-) at least with the crashed one I now have 2 batteries and 2 chargers :-) hehe
For the price these things are UNBEATABLE and the quality is QUITE GOOD considering the price!
ashuta@mac.com @ Aug 22nd 2008 4:17PM
But is it OS X Compatible? Native iMovie/Final Cut support?
Yipers @ Aug 29th 2008 7:30PM
Contrary to what you have here, this is actually DXG's FIRST 1080p model. The others are 720p. Homework! Homework!
DJ Ready Cee @ Sep 12th 2008 3:53PM
I have the DXG-595V and its amazing for the price! I'm still trying to figure out how this one costs so little and does so much. I know a dude with a similar 'brand name' HD camcorder that he spent about $1000 more for and the quality is just as good. His has more features here and there like a touch screen or whatever but the video/audio quality is the bottom line and the DXG did just as good a job.
...and the stills are AMAZING too. Truthfully I think it takes better stills than my Fuji camera! I bought it at B&H for $199. Get it!
Brian @ Sep 14th 2008 2:21PM
I agree with DJ. I had very low expectations of this camera. The samples looked terrible on my PC (pixellated even as stills, lots of motion artifacts and poor resolution)--but that was because the quicktime player does a terrible job on the PC platform. I was amazed when I finally got my unit. The bundled software allows smooth, hi-res playback and the detail and color are excellent in good light. Some macro movies I made of insects were breathtaking projected at 1080p on a 120 inch screen.
This is the best $178 (thanks, Wal Mart) I have spent in a long time!
