2000 vs 3000 is only really a model number. The PS1 and PS2 went through several serial number variations with seemingly minor upgrades in between (I think the current PS2 model is SCPH-7000). Personally I wouldn't have expected the PSP to add things like touchscreen or 2nd analog stick to the PSP since it would change game comparability with older models; meaning that current PSP users would be forced to upgrade to be able to play games the utilize touchscreen etc. Perhaps in the PSP2. . .

The screen is a lot better, especially in sunlight, and the built-in mic should make Skpe calls easy, PS button, and the D-pad and buttons seem to be more profiled with the concave indentation in the middle. Find a mate that has a regular PSP Slim, not Star Wars. It will say 2001.

All PSPs purchased from retail stores in the US will say 2001. It's model number 2000 with the region number 1. Japan will have a different one, as will Europe.

So no, this isn't like a PSP 2001, because that already exists, and it's not just the Star Wars editions.

Why would you want dual analogue sticks AND a touchscreen? One, the interface would be stupidly cluttered as if it wasn't bad enough already. Two, the analogue stick - no offense to you PSP fans- sucks balls compared to normal control pad ones. Three, a touch screen and analogue sticks as well as a D-Pad would be basically useless, developers would be driven mad trying to make use of all three without really pissing the user off.

Built in GPS, yeah nice idea, but it's probably unneeded extra cost - realistically it's not going to be a good quality one they shove in there and it would be poorly used by games. Since homebrew isn't exactly a piece of cake on the PSP, better off just leaving it in Go Explore.

Yes, they would be fun features, but the PSP isn't the right platform to put them on. You should be asking Sony to release a new handheld, not keep flogging a dead horse. The number of games for the PSP is already pretty dwindling, with the odd amazing release amongst few others, so why keep pushing it? They'd be better off just making a new console.

The PS2 upgrades i can relate to - i think it's good how they've actually done something worthwhile, no power brick is very cool given the no size difference. But the PSP is just getting to be a diluted product.

This is a mild hardware rev. Sony's not passing it off as a 'PSP 2' or anything of the sort. Still, trolls and blogskanks predictably find their readily-proffered reasons to dismiss the PSP, regardless of improvements. Been that way since 2004, so in that sense the model numbers are irrelevant. Nintendophiles and Sony bashers will never be satisfied. Failing anything of substance to criticize, they'll concoct imaginary nonsense about Sony returning the device to a $300 price point. Yeah, sure. OK.

Lynx was definitely cool, though. Too bad the Tramiels sucked. In many ways, Sony has mirrored their apathy with the PSP, especially in how they're (mis)handling the USA market. Alas.
