Fujitsu's U2010 goes for 11 hours strong with extended battery
Fujitsu's cute-as-a-button U2010 (or U820, for you USers) was shown off over in Japan at a company event, and while most of the specifications were already hammered out, one particular tidbit at AkihabaraNews took us by surprise. With seemingly every other netbook out there getting blasted for lackluster battery life, the U2010 will reportedly support an extended cell that offers up 11.1 hours of run time. We've no idea if that's a "maximum" number based on "optimal" usage, but no matter how you dice it, it sure beats the (also respectable) 5.3 hour rating given to the standard battery.

11hrs of porn FTW
Kizorblade @ Aug 21st 2008 7:29AM
I'm pretty sure it'd start hurting after a while

On the downside, the spacebar does appear to be "fun size"

Don't forget that Japanese keyboards have extra keys on the spacebar row for changing scripts and whatnot, so the US version would have a more sensibly-sized keyboard.

That's the kind of battery life that all netbooks should have. They're supposed to be portable...
Crayola @ Aug 21st 2008 7:28AM
Sure beat that Dell Laptop with 19 hours battery life...
avester @ Aug 21st 2008 10:01AM
You mean that 19 hours spent with the crappy ARM CPU and Linux?
KidDooc @ Aug 21st 2008 9:12AM
Fugly, but functional. I've been using an 810 for the past 1.5 years, and like it. Just switched to the Kohjinsha SX, which is great, though I'm tempted to get a 820 as a replacement for that old 810.

I wouldn't say fugly, more like...chugly. Yes, chugly.
HTCMogul.Info @ Aug 21st 2008 8:19AM
Sure beats my laptop with 1 hour battery life.

New World Record!
(sorry, too much Olympics these days)

Great. Now let us know when it gets a real operating system (like vendor supplied/supported ubunto mobile that works with all of the hardware) and hopefully/maybe an HSPA modem.

Pretty good, but Dell sort of made something with 9 that won't give your hands arthritis.

Headline:
( Reduced LCD Size + Increased Bezel Size = Lower Power Requirements ) + Additional Battery Cell(s) = More Battery Life.
So, the next netbook can run Even Longer! if they just:
1) Increased Bezel Size! (marketspeak for: Reduced LCD Size!)
2) Additional Battery Cells! (marketspeak for: Bigger, Heavier Battery!)
The bottom line is that additional cell(s) don't noticeably increase/decrease the efficiency of the unit. I mean, why not carry around a car battery for the thing that'll give you 200 hours?

Make a non-tablet version and I'd be all over it. No need for a tablet, and I'd rather not have the weight penalty.

Press release on Fujitsu website says extended battery life on the U2010 is 8 hours, not 11.1 .

An atom processor with wifi and bluetooth running Vista for 11hours? That's awesome!! You could almost get it to boot!
cuoreesitante @ Aug 22nd 2008 12:27PM
Ehh, my HP 2510p gets 10 hrs+ on a 9 cell battery. And i get a 12'' LED with a real duo core processor.....

Anybody else notice the lack of a trackpad or a trackpoint?
IMO, everything looks too cramped
