Maria Sharapova and Canon to give away diamond-clad SD1100 ISs
Maria Sharapova has already had her greatness spread over a number of Motorola handsets, but now the tennis queen is partnering up with long-time associate Canon in order to make five lucky individuals extraordinarily happy. As part of an elaborate marketing scheme, Canon and Maria (but mostly Canon) are cranking up a contest in which five Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS's are given away. But these aren't just any SD1100 ISs -- these are diamond-encrusted editions worth around $12,000 apiece. No word on whether Maria will actually touch the cameras before they're shipped out, but a boy can dream.

Le Big Mac @ Aug 21st 2008 5:37PM
So pretty, oh so pretty.
And what does one do with teh diamonds in two years when you have to replace the camera?
Tinu @ Aug 21st 2008 5:41PM
All those diamonds give a new meaning to the word "flash" for this camera....
George A. Romero @ Aug 21st 2008 5:36PM
Maria can touch my camera any day.
who? @ Aug 21st 2008 5:37PM
You can now take pictures that are worth more than a thousand words!
What the Frack?! @ Aug 21st 2008 5:41PM

Jim Halpert DM @ Aug 21st 2008 6:49PM
OMG...haha....someone made a funny.
nxp3 @ Aug 21st 2008 5:38PM
What...you mean we won't even get to meet Maria sharapova? That sucks...but I'll take the camera anyway. Maria sharapova...man...she's sexy...tennis player's legs are the best kind of legs.
arbert @ Aug 21st 2008 5:38PM

phanbouy @ Aug 21st 2008 5:41PM

BigD145 @ Aug 21st 2008 5:38PM
Hey, those are man hands.
getStringFromObj() @ Aug 21st 2008 5:51PM
Maybe she has the hands of a man, I never really looked at her hands, there were always better parts to watch.
Get the cookies on the damn comment system fixed!

you're welcome.

Yabba Dabba dude!
chefgon_ign @ Aug 21st 2008 5:52PM
I can't be the only person who thinks that electronics become extremely hideous when they are clad with diamonds for absolutely no reason. I would much rather have a regular version of the camera if given the choice (ignoring resale value, of course)
getStringFromObj() @ Aug 21st 2008 6:03PM
Yes, but if they come out with a Megan Fox Fuchitek anything, I would have to buy it.
kjb434 @ Aug 21st 2008 6:12PM
Hey,
If i'm winning a camera with diamonds on, i'm not using it! I'm going to get those rocks off of it and go sell them!
Jet20 @ Aug 21st 2008 6:02PM
Yawn. While all other camera producers have been or are announcing new models, Canon is busy celebrating its own greatness... how bout some real innovation again, for a change? Instead of playing the Microsoft of DC, that is.
redrosemassacre1 @ Aug 21st 2008 6:34PM
She did touch the cameras, I took the picture that you're using.

phanbouy @ Aug 21st 2008 6:40PM
Well Chris Gampat, tell her to wash her hands first next time!
klew @ Aug 21st 2008 7:43PM
photos taken with this camera will have some massive lens flares
Zombie Ned Flanders @ Aug 21st 2008 8:14PM
E18.
doobiedoobieboop @ Aug 21st 2008 9:50PM
lol'd @ Ned
Dress up a shitty consumer camera with expensive rocks and "award" five lucky winners that, by chance, turn out to be A-listers and high-profile individuals. Meanwhile, the average Janes and Joes sit in front of their computers, read all about it, and drool over the mental image of a hot tennis player on Canon's payroll (Joes) or the picture of the ice-laced camera (Janes).
So, how far am I from the truth?
IBRAHIM @ Aug 21st 2008 10:29PM
I own this camera (sans diamonds, of course) and it takes great shots. Video is very nice, too. :)

I give myself 5 minutes before I accidentally drop the $12,000 camera into a flushing toilet, or the ocean.
Adrian @ Aug 22nd 2008 1:27AM
$12,000 and it probably still suffers from Canon's dreaded E18 error when the tiny plastic cog that shifts the lens in and out jams and strips.
