LLUON's A1: bad for steak, good for email
Finally someone has created the perfect lovechild of a laptop and desktop PC. Enter the LLUON A1, a buttery combo that looks as if someone suction-cupped a LCD display to the top of an Eee PC. The system is designed for recreational activities (though likely not hardcore gaming), featuring an Atom N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, an 18.4-inch (1680 x 954) display, a handful of ports, and the ubiquitous DVD multi-drive. Right now this is a Korean-only product, and frankly we don't have a lot of hope that it's headed anywhere close to our shores in the future, but if you know a good importer -- or you've got Asian vacation plans -- you can probably snap this up pretty soon.

I've never got the idea of these "Worst from the both worlds" Desktop-Laptop mixtures.
If you can't fit a mid-tower to your house, wouldn't a laptop be a lot better then?
Mario @ Aug 22nd 2008 10:28AM
I think it's great. For people who want a general purpose PC with a nice keyboard and display, but don't want to play games or do CAD, this is ideal. As long as it is relatively cheap, I think this could be a winner.
It certainly *looks* smart; better than a big, bulky desktop, that's for sure!
KEROLiUKAS @ Aug 22nd 2008 9:26AM
Nice, i wish they would take it a step further and allow the big LCD to come off and have a smaller 1 for use as a laptop.
Chad @ Aug 22nd 2008 11:33AM
Why not just buy a laptop then.
Brian @ Aug 22nd 2008 9:28AM
Looks like the HP HDX Dragon, minus the performance.
Andai @ Aug 22nd 2008 9:34AM
HAHAHA, the mouse look like a microsoft mighty mouse!
TACKY!
HAHAHA
ArcticFox @ Aug 22nd 2008 10:08AM
What does Microsoft have to do with this you idiot?
Zeus.:God @ Aug 22nd 2008 10:32AM
Microsoft Mighty Mouse? The Mighty Mouse is an APPLE product- not Microsoft. Furthermore, the mice that Microsoft does make are some of the best in the industry (in terms of durability and reliability).
Also, I don't see anywhere in this article where they mention Microsoft.

"The system is designed for recreational activities" like scuba diving, mountain climbing, or hunting buffalo all that good stuff?
bob sakamano @ Aug 22nd 2008 10:09AM
close but no.. more like the hobbies in khazakstan... disco dancing, archery, rape, and table tennis
jaedekdee @ Aug 22nd 2008 11:56AM
porn is recreational :)
d @ Aug 22nd 2008 9:37AM
I've got a great best-of-both-worlds combo: MacBook 13" with 23" Cinema Display, Apple Aluminum Keyboard attached to display, and Apple Mighty Mouse attached to the keyboard, with my iPhone 3G Dock in the other display USB and an external hard drive in one of the display firewire ports. The 3 plugs (video, usb, firewire) have been, for all intensive purposes, duck-taped together. It's also called a docking station.
And now the apple haters reply...
d @ Aug 22nd 2008 9:38AM
And, it also reminds me of the G3 iMacs
Mental Issues @ Aug 22nd 2008 9:48AM
That's great, dude. But what does your setup have to do with the LLUON A1?
Mike @ Aug 22nd 2008 9:50AM
"Duck-taped?" ORLY
JerryA @ Aug 22nd 2008 9:59AM
Apple hate? I will do you one better: grammar hate!
"all intensive purposes"? It's "all intents and purposes".
Also, "duct tape".
/hate
fuzzylollipop @ Aug 22nd 2008 10:07AM
it is 'all "intents" and purposes', intensive purposes makes no sense.
jswilson64 @ Aug 22nd 2008 10:18AM
Richard Stands knows what "intensive purposes" means...
fashionista @ Aug 22nd 2008 11:22AM
'd' stands for douche.
Hung @ Aug 22nd 2008 12:57PM
So let me get this straight; you bought a laptop, then an external display, keyboard, mouse, and harddrive.
Let me rephrase that. You bought
portable display, keyboard, touchpad, harddrive, RAM enclosure.
Then you bought
nonportable display, keyboard, mouse, and harddrive. FUCKING GENIUS.
Why didn't you just buy a better laptop? Or a desktop and something like an EEE?
Yeah, I might be an apple hater, but that seems like a dumb idea for ANYONE. Have I stressed how idiotic that seems? 'CAUSE IT'S REALLY FUCKING STUPID.
Tim @ Aug 22nd 2008 9:38AM
I feel like the "perfect lovechild of a laptop and desktop PC" would probably be either mini-itx or mac mini, whichever came first (I assume itx, then apple capitalized on the idea.) That form factor is cheaper and much more flexible, and doesn't tie you down to whichever display comes with it. Unless the A1 is battery powered, I don't really see the point over one of the aformentioned boxes.
k2001 @ Aug 22nd 2008 10:17AM
It looks like a monitor on top of a cheap netbook.
Adderz @ Aug 22nd 2008 10:25AM
All the power of a netbook, packed into the space of a desktop...perfect!
I can see these flying off the shelves over there.
"Lets take a netbook, then shove the lcd on a stick, then we wait for the $...."
MarcBot @ Aug 22nd 2008 10:54AM
Hey,I agree a basic computer that has pretty design? I kinda like the looks of it.
I wish they tell us the specs and the price, I may get one. all i do is email, online shopping, and some 2d gaming. would, look like nice in our small apartment. :D I just wish it runs mac osx. haha j/k
weg @ Aug 22nd 2008 10:58AM
Ubiquitous DVD multi-drive? I thought Apple is still shipping the Macbooks with a CD-ROM by default...
Tim @ Aug 22nd 2008 2:04PM
Its a dvd-rom, cd-rw drive for the lowest end macbook. I'm not sure whether dvd multi-drive entails dvd writing, but i would think that at least dvd reading is fairly ubiquitous these days, macs included.
ma5t3rw1tt @ Aug 22nd 2008 11:07AM
Wow, not bad for a design. Like the new designs that are coming out for computers these days. Got some pretty nice looking concepts going on.
RAS @ Aug 22nd 2008 11:28AM
Welcome to the iMac circa 2002.
Mario @ Aug 22nd 2008 11:50AM
Except that the G4 iMac only had a 15" display and a 60GB HDD, and sold for $1,300 to $1,800.
If this comes in at half that price for an 18.4" display and 160GB HDD, I would say that things had moved on quite a bit, wouldn't you?

Funny how the eee desktop PC is welcomed with open arms but this has mixed responses. Maybe we should put this on a stand and supply it without a monitor, or maybe just slap an eee sticker on it?? Some people are never happy!
I think these things are great. My folks dont want a huge PC cluttering the living room. My dad is an ebay silver sufer and this would be perfect for him. If it was any good with media, I'd use it to run some sort of media centre program for my TV.
Roy @ Aug 22nd 2008 11:46AM
that's pretty sweet.
bartoron @ Aug 22nd 2008 12:07PM
It looks like a nice product, but what would have been even better would be a laptop-sized computer with a pop-up monitor, like the computer in The Sims 2.
captain underpants and the bringdown gang @ Aug 22nd 2008 12:10PM
this is what the iMac G4 should have been.
Owen @ Aug 23rd 2008 5:35AM
Nothing beats the dome!
pfromg @ Aug 22nd 2008 12:26PM
Atom is crap.
I'm not buying it.
bandigolo @ Aug 22nd 2008 1:19PM
stupid. This is a step backwards from mac designs that have existed for years. And I hate macs.
Eli @ Aug 22nd 2008 1:38PM
Introducing iMac G4.
BigD145 @ Aug 22nd 2008 2:05PM
It takes up similar depth spacing as a CRT. This is progress?
Joe Maki @ Aug 22nd 2008 3:26PM
Josh, dem's fighten words!
A1 is the only one to consider for steak.
WTC @ Aug 23rd 2008 1:37AM
Cool, a glossy black monitor suckered to a fairly thin white glossy base. Great combo, but all I want its the monitor, the base, the ram and the HDD. I'll discard the motherboard and find a replacement...
Minh @ Aug 24th 2008 5:22PM
it got potential, but the color don't seem to match. The monitor arm could use a new design.
