We're got a tipster telling us that Sony's new 9.9-mm thin, wireless Bravia ZX1 is absolutely, without a doubt, based on Amimon's WHDI (pre-standard) wireless technology. Not surprising given Sony's and Amimon's
collaborative effort to make WHDI a proper standard. Still, when we asked Sony, they gave us a sly grin followed by a, "no comment." Sony was willing to confirm a "guaranteed" 1080i transmission at a range of up to 20-meters. Amimon, on the other hand, can transmit 1080p / 30fps at distances up to 30-meters, you know, just as long as you're not separating devices with a wall of Kevlar and Kryptonite. Sony also told us that we can expect the thinster to land in Euroland before Xmas, but not the US where it would seem they have a different, non-integrated wireless model prepping for release. We'll see at CES in January if not earlier.

Why are we so preoccupied with thin? Thin != quality and you still have to deal with the actual component box (not shown)
Bill @ Aug 29th 2008 9:38AM
That is one mean TV, what, with a RAGE of 20-meters... Sorry, gotta love those who rely on spell checkers and don't proof read.
superted @ Aug 29th 2008 9:40AM
annoys me that photo, the TV is about 1ft behind the BR case
perspective at play
Jason @ Aug 29th 2008 11:40AM
No, not perspective, the hand is right there in the reflection. Any play going on here would have to include some pho-shopping.
Lionheart @ Aug 29th 2008 11:44AM
How do you figure that when the reflection of the hand is on the TV? Hell, from official dimensions, a blu-ray case is supposed to be thicker than that TV...
Biomech @ Aug 29th 2008 12:05PM
In the photo they look like they have the same thickness, and in real life a BR case is just about (or over, in some cases) a centimeter and the TV is 0.99 cm so... it's not really perspective at play.
THizzle7XU @ Aug 29th 2008 12:49PM
Why would they try to make a deceptive picture when you will be able to grab a Blu-ray case and compare it yourself in the store? This isn't some mystical machine that consumers will never see.
SimbaDogg @ Aug 29th 2008 6:37PM
there's always some guy who thinks he can spot a fraud, "perspective at play"...
yeah, this is EXACTLY why you wouldn't be able to tell if they case were behind or infront of the tv to being with if it weren't for the reflection of the hand.
distordz @ Aug 29th 2008 9:55AM

Great job Engadget. These grammar and spelling mistakes have been popping up everywhere... Here, AutoBlog, Joystiq, X3F, PS3F, WiiF, etc...

Spelling and grammar errors are a staple here at Engadget. You must learn to embrace them.

It's so most people who comment on these stories can understand them.
